How to Spot a Jasper

Recommended Posts

The jasper is only on the arcades right now, correct? I was going to buy an elite but now I think it might be better (and cheaper) to buy an arcade and a bigger hard drive. I can't think of any advantages to buying an elite now, the arcade still has HDMI and everything right?

I know this is a stupid question, but what's the rage with the jasper xbox'es ?

They have the smaller 65 nanometer cpu's. This means that the run cooler and quieter, with a much smaller chance of hardware failure. Also, they have 256 MB of onboard memory, so you can store the os (or a few game saves) internally.

I went out last night and picked up a Jasper. It is definitely quieter. I installed Far Cry 2 and the xbox is completely silent while playing it. The new dvd drives are quieter too. I checked the heat after a few hours of play and it's obvious that the Jasper runs a lot cooler. I'm pretty confident that this thing won't red ring anytime soon.

What do you do with your other xbox?

Well I bought an LCD a few months back and since then my 32" CRT has just been sitting in the other room. I hate to waste a perfectly good HDTV so I hooked the other box up to that. Now I can accomodate local co-op without split screen!

them KT people sure seem unaffected by all this economic "turmoil" or as it is otherwise known "mass induced panic" .

I bought an Xbox 360 Arcade a couple of weeks ago and it doesn't appear to be a Jasper-based console. What do I do about this? Is this legit? Can I return it for a jasper-based?

I bought one too about 3 weeks ago and just noticed it is a Falcon-based Xbox 360 Arcade. I'm not too mad about it though since the only big difference is the cooling (65nm = less heat) and the integrated storage.

You could not care, because it really doesn't make a bit of difference.

I don't know about that. Now that I have both I can tell you that the difference is night and day in terms of heat and noise. Decyfer, I would try exchanging it if I were you.

Neither of which give you any less a chance of contracting an RROD at this stage in the 360's life.
