Windows 7 and Piracy

Recommended Posts

I understand that neowin has a STRONG stance against piracy, as well they should. This is something i respect and should be enforced. But I received a warning because i said i would wait until the beta leaks (of windows 7). But everyone and their grandmother on this site has downloaded it and are currently discussing it here on neowin. Isn't it pretty obvious how they all got it? I am not saying we shouldn't have the ability to talk about Windows 7, but what is the difference between saying i'm going to do it in a thread discussing a beta (which by all accounts the beta is going to be available for FREE and sanctioned by MS, who will be giving them out at their conferences), then by downloading pre-beta versions, which are not sanctioned by MS and almost everyone here shouldn't actually have?

Isn't that a bit hypocritical?

Welcome to Neowin, home of the double standard. Enjoy your stay. :)

For starters, I agree with you, but you are going the wrong way about dealing with it, take it up with an admin. As far as I'm aware, it's going to be an open beta for when the betas are released, just like Windows Vista was. If that's the case, then you shouldn't be getting a warning for waiting for a product you'll be able to download, use, test legally. If this isn't the case then you've dug yourself a hole I'm afraid.

If the beta is open, ask an admin to remove the warning or at least discuss the matter.

i asked an admin to look into it, that was almost two weeks ago, he has yet to get back to me...

So then you figured this:

Did you get a warning on your account?

You reserve the right to PM any Supervisor or Administrator regarding action taken against your account here at Neowin.

Please do not resort to complaining in your sig or here, we encourage members to contact staff that can handle the issue for you via PM.

didn't apply to you?

And you did get your answer from said admin.
