Frank
I decided I needed to learn more about Linux and so I formatted my Laptop with Ubuntu and I have been running it for about 5 days. I have found that Linux is very customizable but very different from Windows. I am looking around for a "Beginners Guide" to Ubuntu or Linux in General. I found http://ubuntuguide.org but it is pretty long and right now I just want to get the basics down. Does anyone have any recommendations on a newb guide for me to read? Lechio
Also, after a quick search, this looks nice: http://linux-newbie.dotsrc.org/html/lnag.html A great part of the "Linux basics" has to do with dealing with the terminal. Try to learn that first.
Frank
Maybe the Linux Newbie Guide? Ill check it out! Also, after a quick search, this looks nice: http://linux-newbie.dotsrc.org/html/lnag.htmlA great part of the "Linux basics" has to do with dealing with the terminal. Try to learn that first. The terminal is really the reason why I decided to go to Linux in the first place. I figured the best way to learn it was to throw myself into it... so far I am questioning that decision. :p

Lechio
Logout of GNOME, now press CTRL+ALT+F1 and login that shell. From that shell, with the right tools, it is possible to access the web, IM, play music/videos, edit documents, (..). Pretty much anything you would be able to do on a graphical environment. That will from now on be your desktop. If you manage to endure 2 weeks of that, and learn how to to all of those stuff from there you will become a true 1337 hacker. :p Shock therapy.
