xBox 360 RROD fix really works?!

Recommended Posts

I just walked a friend through the "Towel fix" for an xBox 360 (You wrap the console in a few towels and leave it on for 15 or so minutes) and, on occasion, will allow the xBox to boot without the 3 red rings.

Well, to say the least, it worked. My buddy removed the towels, and it stopped flashing red, and booted without an issue

The xBox was purchased in December 2007 (Elite) I wasn't aware that the elites (that new) were still experiencing a issue with this??!!

Thanks Microsoft.

it'll only last a week or a month max, then the rings will be back.

tell your friend to call microsoft and ask for the replacement coffin so when it breaths its last breath he'll get his 360 quicker.

Yup, he called me after calling microsoft. Apparently they have a new repair option, that sends you a pre-paid label via e-mail after 24-48 hours. He's just screwing around with it to see if he can't get a couple hours gaming in.

Thanks,

Dan

They can tell if you've done the towel trick I've heard though, so he may not be able to get it replaced.

I think that even if they could tell that you had "intentionally overheated" your 360. The bad press of getting it to consumerist... and the EECB that might occur, they would replace it anyway. They need to fix the image that they have, if they plan on winning the next console war.

Thanks,

Dan

well i done ye old towel trick, and then sent it back to them and they didn't say a thing!

so maybe they can tell you have done it, but maybe they wouldn't ask you about it, because you will just say, "no i didn't do it". your word against theirs

has anyone got theirs returned to them due to doing the towel trick?

I'm not positive on any of this but I've heard there are diagnostics inside the 360 telling them what was the problem that led to it bricking.

As I said though, I don't know for sure, I just heard that.

I wouldn't be surprised if they just checked the console and found it wasn't working properly and replaced it and send the rest off for refurb. I doubt they have the time to individually inspect every single console for the exact fault

I heard that too, like there's a compartment that logs all of the errors that the console has experienced.

^ it makes perfect sense, why wouldnt you?

Chances are they are replacing these things before they get inspected to speed up turn arounds.

They know there are so many flaws, so if they are going to stop helping people or kick up a fuss next time around xbox won't be on my list, and i am sure that is the same for many others out there

You sure they didn't just find a few threads caught in one of the vents one or two times?
