Scientology advertisement

Recommended Posts

I know that it depends on google adv servers, but can something be done for that? Don't tell me it's fine to have scientology adv on the website please...

Example in attach

My question is how google adsense even decided how to put that ad next an article about Blackberry... Either way, that is messed up.

In all fairness I don't think anyone on the internet would be silly enough to join a cult based on an advertisement. :p

yeah, considering spammers still make money on the Internet and all.

In all seriousness though, as much as I hate the group and the treatment of its members, one could argue that Neowin asks in its rules to respect the beliefs of others, so maybe we should apply that rule to this instance.

For ads? What does Scientology have to do with a Blackberry article. This isn't a religious site intended for religious indoctrination.

I thought the Anon kiddies destroyed Scientology years ago.

"anon kiddies" have a very limited attention span, and are easily distracted.

they probably saw a picture of some hot chick they didnt know, and have spent the rest of the time since, trying to find its source.

All hail Xenu.

Xenu's their evil overlord ;)

+1 for banning this ad. Just because the "church" of Scientology is hiding behind the religious pretext doesn't mean it's not abhorrent.

Oh, and we're still protesting.

Or be rich enough to join!

Dont say anything against Scientology or they might come round your place and start harrassing you. Its generally what they do.

Meh, they cant do much to someone that has little money and anything of importance to them. They can try, but they cannot stop me having freedom to speak, unless they actually kidnap/murder me, which would then prove the point...

I'm not a fan of any organised religion or cult, and Scientology is no exception. What I don't get is, why everyone hates Scientology so much. Sure, it's beliefs are far-fetched, but more so than an omnipotent, omniscient being who created everything? Even more far fetched than a carpenter who was born to a virgin in the middle east who could perform miracles and be resurrected after he died? Even more far fetched than reincarnation?

All of these religious concepts are actually quite far-fetched if you think about it, but people are more willing to accept peoples' beliefs of them simply because they've been around longer.

In my opinion (everyone has a right to one): All religions are riddled with far fetched concepts. You can either believe them or not. The problem I see is, people are more than happy to complain about Scientology than they about other organised religions. Or, vice-versa, people are happy to accept other people's beliefs if they support an older religion. Am I the only one who thinks all the people who bash Scientology - but are quite happy to say "Christians/Hindus/Muslims/etc have a right to their beliefs" are a bunch of double-standard goons? 1 rule for some, another rule for others it would seem.

Edit:

Just for the record: I'm neither defending or criticising the beliefs of Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Scientology + others, I'm merely criticising the people who have double standards when it comes to criticising them. Criticising the critics if you will.

Oh, trust me, there's good reasons. Here is a good starting point for further reading. Read here for further information on the victims.

Are you actually playing the 'crimes against humanity' card? Just googling for 'genocide' brings up a lot of religion-fueled 'crimes-against-humanity'. For example, the Crusades in which the Christian church fought Muslims, Jews, Pagans - even other Christians and others. The Spanish Inquisition - again, a crime against humanity. Repressing Jews, Protestants and Muslims isn't exactly a good thing is it?

More recently, religious extremists (not reflective of the whole, I know) have been hitting cultures around the world in 'terrorist attacks'. 11/9 (I'm English), 7/7, car bombings all over the place - so long as we ignore conspiracy theorists, those attacks were done in the name of a religious belief. Whether the religious leaders support or condone the actions of the minorities or not is a debate for another day. Point is, terrible things are done in the name of religion all the time, all over the world. Scientology is just playing catch-up.

So, boo hoo, Scientology are singling out a few individuals. Larger religions have been doing it on a larger scale for thousands of years. Maybe in a couple of thousand years time, Scientology will have caught up with the rest of the crowd on the 'crimes-against-humanity' front. But I guess it's more personal when they say "Scientologists killed Lisa McPherson" rather than "Thousands killed in religious-based genocide".

Edit: Fixed grammar x)
