Frank
I recently switched to Linux and one of the problems I have had that really bugs me is the in ability to stream videos from the local networks. It appears CBS and NBC are using Flash so they should work but it just sits there like it is loading and never gets anywhere. FOX and ABC are using a proprietary player that doesn't support Linux. Is there anyway around this without having to setup a Dual Boot with Windows?
markwolfe Veteran Posted December 22, 2008 Veteran Share Posted December 22, 2008 (edited) Let me look at sample videos from each station. CBS, working: http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=4680598n NBC, opened a new window, nothing displayed. FOX, opened a new window, nothing displayed. ABC, opened a new window, nothing displayed. Not sure if something like an IE for Linux (link) would work. I've never bothered with getting IE installed on my box. * I use Google for news, and their videos are hosted on YouTube and work fine. Plus, are more balanced than you get from any single source, because it draws from all, from FoxNews to CNN to AlJazeera. * For what it is worth, I'm installing IE now... > IEs4Linux has a stupid warning posted about needing wine 0.9.x saying I am using an old version (1.1.10)??? > I can get IE fired up to a URL manually, but it seems to be broken (maybe because I'm not using their .reg files) > I give up on the IE route. Maybe try Crimson's advice below. ; ) Edited December 22, 2008 by markjensen
CrimsonRedMk Member Posted December 22, 2008 Member Share Posted December 22, 2008 Try Firefox under WINE: use the portable version.
