nomis_nehc
Hi guys. So Friday night, I started to experience this really strange lag when I play Soul Calibur 4 on Live. During a random time in a battle, I would lag terribly and everything would freeze for a few seconds. This seems to be occurring only once per battle (could be 3 rounds, or 5) and afterwards it returns to its smooth game play. At first I thought it was my wireless router, I have a WRT54G2, and have recalled reading in the past about some issues. It has been working fine for some time, but I thought what the heck... and installed DD-WRT on it to see if it fixes the problem. Sadly, nope, still the same thing. So now I am puzzled by what's causing this issue. Could it be my wireless adapter (360)? Some settings I need to change in my router? (Do recall that it was working just great before) Just to add, during this lag/freeze, it appears that all commands inputted during this time is dropped. Not sure if it's an indication that during this "freeze" my connection is actually trying to re-establish connection with the peer, or if this is a programmed function. Help please, while it doesn't affect the game most of the time, it's still an annoyance, I would want things to go back to normal.
KreepLX360
I had intermittent issues similar to yours on my 360 when I had a Upnp glitch on my router that was caused from me not doing a master reset after a firmware upgrade. Does the network test come back clean or does the NAT say anything other than open? Hi guys. So Friday night, I started to experience this really strange lag when I play Soul Calibur 4 on Live. nomis_nehc
When you say master reset, I assume you mean pressing the button on the back of the router, correct? I didn't do that after upgrading to DD-WRT, but did reboot the router several times from the interface though. And since I am not home right now, I can't try a network test (the Live net. test, right?). But keep the ideas coming... I really want to fix this. KreepLX360
Yea, I mean the button on the back. It is starting to sound more like the same problem I had. My 360 said my NAT was not open until I pressed the button on the back of my WRT300N router. This fixed a lot of lag issues when I played games. It was so bad, I could not connect to a lot of games and when I could the lag was horrible on my cable connection. Give it a shot, it might solve your problems. Does the network test come back clean or does the NAT say anything other than open? BTW, save your router configuration and restore it when your done. If you don't do this you will have to do all of your settings again. When you say master reset, I assume you mean pressing the button on the back of the router, correct? Michael Lacey
I suppose it's an idea to try a wired connection (if feasible) to see if it's your adapter?
nomis_nehc
Ok, I will give the reset a go. Which, now I am thinking about it, it MIGHT be the NAT because now when I sign into Live, it takes a little longer than usual. Before it was practically 2 seconds from me pressing A to sign in, now it thinks for a bit. And thejiSH... unfortunately, that's not feasible. The wireless router and my 360 is not in the same room. Plus I have pets running around, long wires would end up being chewed up anyway.
nomis_nehc
Alright... so I went home and thought I would run the network test... turns out that it's only moderate for some reason. The diagnostic told me to make sure I have UPnP enabled... so I checked. And lo and behold, it was disabled for some reason. Enabled it and now the problem has gone away! How strange, since I didn't disable it earlier. Oh well! Thanks for the help anyway guys.
nomis_nehc
Humm... actually, it's a bit better, but it's not completely gone yet. What the hell... I tried reseting via the button on the router as well. Any more ideas?

Hupp
have you done any bandwidth tests to check how your connection is?
nomis_nehc
Do you mean on my PC or on 360? The network test in 360 now is perfectly fine, open NAT, and etc. As for PC bandwidth test, I am assuming you mean speed? I did a test yesterday, and my connection is well above the average of the nation, heh.
habnad
For troubleshooting purposes, (im guessing you're using wireless) have you tried to plug in directly to your cable modem and take the router out of the picture? If its not the router, are the correct ports forwarded on the router? Have you tired putting the 360 in the routers "DMZ"? Is it only that game or others that you lag out on? Just a couple questions off the top of my head...
nomis_nehc
Unfortunately, I can't do it without the router because it's in a different room. I believe the ports are correct. When I enabled UPnP, it auto added the profile, and I see the port 3074 is opened. And it's the only game I play online, so I don't really know. (It's the only game I care about online, lol... I am ranked #23 in the world in this game, haha)
