Angry with support and MS crappy Hardware.

Wow, I have never seen an xbox destroy two discs like that in a row... Remind me to test using a CD-R if that ever happens to me.

I am really confused as to HOW the xbox360 can scratch a disc like it does... I have never had a DVD / CD player in my life, in any of my electronics kill a disc like the xbox360.

I'm guessing it may have something to do with the disc "bouncing" around when spinning at high speeds? - Either the DVD trays are poorly manufactured, or something else like that.

So in essence it is discs being shredded "while being moved". The process of moving a disc makes it liable to be ringed by the laser, and instead of you causing it to happen by physically moving the console, the dvd tray or something in the DVD drive is causing the disc to move itself.

I don't think a laser can just shred a disc through normal operation?

Just guesswork from me.

I've got sympathy for you but you shouldn't have put another expensive game in a console that you knew could destroy discs, you should have put something you didn't really care if you lost in it.

If you would have read his first post you would have seen he already has a PS3. Quit trolling, it won't be tolerated.

If you would read his first post you would also have seen that the PS3 does not belong to the kid:

Still ****ed because now its the holidays, my kid does not have his XBOX to play and will bug me to use my PS3.

What you think is trolling, is me expressing my personal opinion on the subject. But if you see it as trolling, and expressing my opinion on this matter the way I did goes against the rules of this forum, please feel free to moderate me and my opinion so that it can fit your own opinion in this matter. It's in your power.

raise a stink again. make sure to hammer home the fact they now will have replaced two consoles that you purchased within just months of each other, and you were once a l oyal customer, but never will be again. hell, even say you are the administrator on a website forum that has over a 100,000 active members, and make it perfectly clear you will not only share your story but make sure you let it known people should never deal with MS again...

reason i suggest all of this, is i know damn well and as fact since they did it for me, that MS can and will give out new disks of their own first party games, which does include titles like forza 2, viva pinata, perfect dark, etc. etc. at least those were the titles they were willing to offer me when i would not let a certain thing go with them, and that was over a year ago.

so while it is not the games you lost, it makes up for things slightly. just slightly.

i got the 120 gb drive for christmas today for my (technically 3rd as it is 2 refurbs later) launch console. it absolutely went against everything i believe in, i think it is a travesty they charge so much for a 120 gb laptop drive, but the main reason i did it is i personally will never be convinced they will have a perfect issue free console. knowing how many issues people have had with the DVD drive, including myself as that was one of the issues on my 2nd refurbished unit, i asked for it not only because i wanted more room as i was sick of deleting demos just to download a movie i am paying for to rent, but to hopefully extend the longevity of my current consoles drive.

as much as i love the 360, i hate MS and their practices, i truly do. say i personally am with you, cannot let it go on principle alone.

I agree. When we first found our unit was ringing disks, we turned it off and called customer service. It took many calls to get them to actually send the shipping box. Each call said they were shipping the box, but they never did. That was frustrating, but it eventually got sent. Turnaround wasn't too long, and they even fixed the springloaded hinge for the USB cover. (Y)

Microsoft would not cover the media, but I called Harmonix, and they shipped out a replacement CD no questions asked. That was great, as I expected another back-and-forth battle.

But it ringed Rock Band - funny, with it being stationary. Even after the repair to fix the CD ringing issue. Can't say I am happy.

I don't mind people saying that they haven't seen it on their unit, or their friends'. But it is real. It does happen. And it isn't just "user abuse".

your not the only one i sent mine in for that same issue, took them 2 months, and i had it do it again probably 4-5 months after it was "fixed." i complained enough and had them just replace my console.

I hope things work out for you. I think I'm on my 6th 360 (I've lost track, but I've had this one for over a year with no problems, thankfully - knock on wood), but I've never had any discs scratched by any of them. I love the 360 as a gaming platform, but I play it a lot less than I probably would because I fear having to go through getting another one replaced.

And before anybody comes in and tells me that I abuse my consoles, none of my 360s have been in an enclosed space nor have any been moved while running. In fact, most had never been moved at all once installed. Also, I've never had a console fail on me before I bought an Xbox 360. I just think some of us have worse luck than others with these poorly-made things.

AgEnTsMiTh and markjensen, I hope things work out for you guys. I work in the claims office of a popular retailer, and you'd be surprised how many XBOX 360's get returned to us within our 30 day return policy in otherwise perfect condition with the exception of the disc drive destroying any disc you put in it, it's mostly the XBOX 360 Arcade and the XBOX 360 Pro consoles that are coming back, haven't seen too many Elites being returned although I don't think that sales are as high on that SKU.

Mind you, a buddy of mine has an original XBOX 360 and an XBOX 360 Elite and they both work perfectly. Luck of the draw, I suppose.

Update.

In addition to the newest media ringing... I am the not-so-proud owner of a RROD X-Box. 3 red lights. Wife will call it in for repair (again) tomorrow.
