Check out this site. From the article:

Download the Chris Pirillo font if you'd like to see an example of a custom font. He made his own font using a different program called ScanFont from FontLab. Currently, the Windows version of this program costs $199.

yeah i know how to make fonts... actually i have made some... but i always droped them after a while, since i never had enough time for fonts... you need special programs, LOTSA time and a very patient mind... I have used program like ScanFont (mentioned somewhere here), Macromedia Fontographer 4.1, High-Logic Font Creator 3.1. You will also need a Vector-based imaging program such as Adobe Illustrator and Corel DRAW...

Here's what I can say about them:

1. ScanFont: GREAT Program... Its worth much more than what it costs. You can actually scan anything and almost automatically convert it into a font...

2. Fontographer: Its an old program, but prolly one of the best... It requires a lot of hours to learn though...

3. Font Creator: Its a quite easy program to use, but its very limited.

--------------------------------------

4. Illustrator: Great program as you prolly know...

5. DRAW: Dunno! Never EVER used it...

Why do you need a vector-based program? Well because your font must be able to resize it self without getting ugly... thus your font wont be any kind of picture... it will be a bunch of mathematic formulas to say i.e curve there, straight line here etc...
