0 tomwarren Veteran Posted April 9, 2003 Veteran Share Posted April 9, 2003 If its just a forward you will have to get some kind of hosting and forward it to that hosting :)
0 Wildcard
Although it is possible to host a website yourself its much easier to get some web hosting somewhere. Lots of webhost allow you to use the domain you bought along with webhosting. Just do a google search and see what comes up

0 sphere
You can host it on your machine if your isp allows it. I'd shop around for hosting prices. Take a look at www.ratemyhost.com
0 salterbomb
Ehostsource check that out. $6 a month and 50 gb transfer. seems pretty good to me. what do you guys think?
0 persianpsycho
I got my domain which i have never used and continue to waste money on from register.com, during december, i saw a really good hosting deal from some canadian company. They offered a gig of space, 30 gigs of transfer a month, cgi, php, mysql stuff too for 10 bucks a month, from the deals ive seen it seemed pretty good. You can view their site at www.dm-is.com. The only downside to them hosting you, is that they are a small hosting company, so you have to pay them with paypal, and you have to e-mail them regarding hosting, they replay the next morning at the latest. I know a few people who are also hosted by them, and so far its been really good, although personally ive used it only as a place to host a bunch of useless files. 0 Adster
I've been scouring the internet for years to search for the best domain registrar and webhosting. For domain regestering, I reccomend Stargate (http://www.stargateinc.com) Their price: $7.95 USD per domain. I've reggd hundreds of domains through them. The only bad thing I've found with this company id their DNS update can take up to 48 hrs, which is actually just normal. For webhosting, there are 2 I reccomend. DiscountHosting (http://www.discount-hosting.com) $10 USD a year hosting includes just about everything EXCEPT CGI. 50 meg space, 5gig transfer a month. 10 Pop emails and 1 MySQL DB. 1 month free trial. No tech support. (except forums) NO option to upgrade service. Downfall is that the servers are in france. I've used these guys for years, and have had almost NO downtime. e-Rice (http://www.e-rice.net) $10 USD a year hosting includes just about everything except CGI (seeing a trend?) 150 meg space, 3gig transfer a month. 10 Pop emails and 1 MySQL DB. 7 days free trial. No tech support. (except forums) There is also an option to switch to a higher plan. $20/yr and $45/yr avail. I recently switched all my hosting to e-Rice because it's here in the US. They also seemed much faster since I wasn't going all the way to france, and they have lots of little perks for free such as subdomains and WebMail. These are the best bang for your buck. These are perfict if your just putting up a small website, but could obviously be way too small if you plan on running a large corperate site. Hope this helps!! -Adster http://www.adster.net - hosted by e-Rice

0 sp0rk
http://www.cyberpixels.com/ and http://activewebhosting.com are the two best hosts in my opinion. Active Web Hosting is a very good company. I use them now, and they are really helpful. It's run by regular people, who email you when there is a problem, instead of automated things. I really recommend them to someone that needs a host. $10/a month

0 sphere
Yep, no point in worrying about all that now. Just build your website and upload it. Your first page (home) will have to be named index.htm or index.html. Try http://www.show-me-how.com/build-your-own-...ite/index.shtml
