junk angel
Hello. I've run multiple themes on my win XP with no problems at all. Recently I've got a notebook with an self made install of vista home premium - 64-bit. I've managed to patch the three basic files with vistaglazz without any issues. But when I try to replace the browseui I get into problems. I managed to get the registry hack working, which gives me control over said file. Afterthat, supposedly all I have to do is rename the file and copy paste a new one in there. The renaming goes without problems, but when I try to copy a custom one, I get a pop up if I want to overwrite browseui.dll (renanmed original into broseui.dll.old) and in the end it does not allow me to do so, as it's apparently still in use. If I try to put %systemroot%\system32\browesui.dll into explorer's address bar, it tells me, it can't locate said file. I've also tried it with restorator - that does no difference. As a last option I tried renaming the file, killing explorer in the task manager and copying the new browseui with winrar. That did work. But when I tried to either restart explorer or the entiriety of windows, I get a crash with explorer saying that it cannot locate browseui.dll. One more thing. I've even tried turning off themes in services.msc (motivy in my language version of vista (cz) and it still does not allow me to overwrite the original file even if it's renamed. Even restoring the old one does nothing. And I've got to say it's total fun running system restore from the task manager. Any help on getting modded browseui's to work would be appriciated. Malskazz
Should do it :s.. Weird.. It says it cannot locate browseui.dll? Are you certain the file name is correct :s? Also, in 64-bit you must also mod the browseui.dll in SysWOW64
junk angel
Now that is something no one mentioned before :p So I have to take ownership of both the browseui in system32 and syswow64, rename and copy the new one (designed for 64-bit) Correct? Thanks :)
junk angel
Update Apparently I can replace the one in syswow64 without issues. But sadly, still have the very same problem with the one in system32. I turned hidden system files off. and searched for browseui Could someone tell me, if I have to replace any extras apart from the one in syswow54 and system32. Here are the results of the search. Malskazz
Nope, the rest are either just cache or something, and the .mui files is text. Hmm.. Uninstall your current take ownership reg entry, and get this one: http://www.herbystweaks.net/files/TakeOwn.zip (use shift + right click to see it) Try with that see if you can do it with that one
junk angel
Sadly still the very same problem. Just to make a sort of double check, I also looked into the folder with firefox. And weirdly it lists a lot browseuis in the system32 folder than I can see. I only see one. The one I give the old extension. But firefox shows me this File:browseui Backup.dll 1293 KB 6.12.2008 2:59:09 File:browseui.dll 1590 KB 28.10.2008 22:41:30 File:browseui.dll.old 1293 KB 21.1.2008 3:50:57 File:browseui_2.dll 1293 KB 21.1.2008 3:50:57 File:
