thanks... appreciate your help... what about usability, stuff like that... trying to make it as user-friendly as possible, this is pretty much the first step to running my own business... also, once u came to the site, were u like ehh, i've got better things to do, hit the back button, or were u actually interested in seeing what's behind the front page... thanks again...

Ok lets try this again..being that when i went to post a reply, cara seems to have moved the topic out from under me.

As i was saying, i looked around for a bit..checked out the resume and a few other sites you designed. I like the dark look of the site and the way that its centered in the page. This is just a personal preference but i hate when things are left justified like www.msn.com. It just looks dumb on larger resolutions.

thanks for all the feedback... yea, i know, the pages would take a little while to load, especially on a modem, it's pretty quick on broadband though... that's the sacrifice u gotta make, either it looks good or it loads fast... still, i'm gonna do something about images sizes, i'm sure i can optimize them better... thanks again...

The site is way to dark. The homepage is nice but I think the rest of the pages could use a lot of work. You need more uniformity on the pages within. Your banner images need to all be at the same height with text centered in one direction. Also the contact information is a little much on the front page, keep the front page clean.

Other than that I like the site a lot, very professional looking, keep up the good work!

Dark? Perhaps, but that's the style he's going for here. Nothing wrong with it, because it's not white text on black, just a dark grey, which is still easier to read. I'm not seeing the lack of uniformity... There's a consistent header style, and he was able to work the sub navigation of the sample work page in VERY nicely, in terms of usablity. Not sure what banner ads you're referring too.... And the contact info should stay. This site is as good as a business card, so you've gotta make sure it's easy to use it to contact you.

Beyond that, make sure you're linking things right. You've got it half right on the front page. You have a click here. Those are bad. Try "to explore the site or view my resume" with view my resume linked.

Also, the yellow seems a bit uncomfortable on the front page. Try either switching to a different color or reworking that part of the page. It's good to have the sample work right there to draw people in. It just could be presented better to attract your audience more :)

The site looks very nice, however as a web and graphic designer myself (professionally), I would be wrong not to point out a few things, and please, take this as constructive criticism and not my being rude or anything of the sort.

If you are going to be doing web design professionally then I would highly recommend creating pages that are forward looking and that comply with the web standards available to you today. I'm not saying ditch the table-based layout and the image heavy pages, but make better use of them.

I have to disagree with your comment about a page either being quick to load or looking good. This is wrong. I've seen visually disgusting pages take forever to load and I've seen visually stunning pages load in mere seconds. Part of the problem, and yes it is a problem, is that table based layouts are slow by nature due to the layout processing the browser must do before being able to display the page. In the nested table layouts so common over the past years and even now, this load time can be quite long. I know a lot of you hate hearing about designing web pages/sites using CSS and proper HTML/XHTML (this doesn't mean without tables) and even using pure CSS layouts (this means without tables), but the benefits are many. You not only create pages that are (possibly) accessible to any web-enabled device without creating different versions of the page(s), but you also can drastically reduce the size of the page(s) in many cases. You also end up with pages that will be viewable (correctly) in most modern and future browsers.

On a side note, I think having some basic contact information on the home/front page is a wonderful idea. Then again I'm of the type that thinks the web is about presenting information in a visually appealing manner, not making image-heavy splash pages that only serve to make me wear my mouse out by clicking a dozen times to find the information I want.

I'm done ranting, and I wish you the best of luck in your endeavor.

I like it! You need to optimimize the pictures though( ie: "save for web in photoshop )

I really like how you did the buttons... can you tell me what program you used to make this?

thanks :)

it's very nice, but 1 suggestion you should add a preloader for the hover images.

this will make the image link hover smooth on slow connections.

You know, it's amusing to me when I hear this suggestion (nothing against you, ok) because I've never used this "feature" of Photoshop except for a few experiments (comparing this against just saving them). Guess what? I can get smaller files sizes just by saving them directly. Then again I save almost everything as gifs (even pictures, as only the larger ones retain any file size advantage over gifs).

*shrug* Maybe I'm just special like that.

It is a very nice site... I have som Ideas for you they are as follows:

1) With the buttons when you roll over it makes the arrow a brighter red it would look nice is you also made it so that it will light up a a section of the background image... I hope you understand what I mean.

2) It would also look nice if you added a little more content on the site and it will look sweet if you add a digital JAVA clock that goes into the system time and you can see the site.

yup, i know what you mean... i'll mess around with layer opacity for those sections of the background and see how it looks... as for the java clock, i'm trying to avoid using things like java to keep the site accessible to everyone, besides, i'm not sure where exactly it would fit in the layout... thanks for the feedback though...

heh, so i've played around with image optimization, and i can not compress the images much more without sacrificing quality... if i go any lower the image defects become visible... maybe i'm just looking too hard though...

as for more content, it's coming, i'm working on it right now :)
