Turning 2D into 3D

Question

I have a LightWave question...

I've got a vector image from Illustrator (just a black and white shape, no fancy gradients or anything of that nature) that I want to turn into an extruded 3d image in LightWave. Problem is, I don't know where the import dialog is, and what formats it can import! I'm a little new at this, so could someone point me in the right direction? I just need to know what format LightWave can accept for a flat vector image with one color.

Thanks a ton! This is the stuff neowin is made of.

I'm not sure you can do that. I'm not familiar with Lightwave, but in other 3d applications you would need to trace the image and then extrude it.

See if you can set the image for the background of the front view. Then just trace it with splines.

That sounds correct... I really use swift 3d, maya, and 3D Studio Max..... but I am guessing they are close to the same.
