xXTOKERXx
I was curious, because all of asus boards now come with splashtop is it possible to modify the programs it loads? or to manipulate it in any way? My PC is used as a HTPC, and I have found myth to be rather interesting and would love to be able to boot it from splashtop - is this possible? What would I require to do this? If this is not possible what is the next best thing? (I presume having some form of nix installed onto a hard drive and splashtop then booting into this?) PLease let me know, having been "up with the time" on linux for some while now!
markwolfe Veteran Posted January 3, 2009 Veteran Share Posted January 3, 2009 I don't have personal experience with this, but I think that there are some ROM versions, and some Hard Drive versions. I don't think much could be done about ROM. But if you have their Linux on a hard drive, I would imagine that a whole world of tinkering would be available. Lechio
It's already been hacked to run from an USB pen drive. So it's possible to customize it pretty good. Have a look at the Phoronix forums for more info.
xXTOKERXx
I was thinking more about whats on my asus board as it is? I presume this would be a rom then, and an external device would be needed to flash this rom, IE not the sort of thing consumers have (only at asus factory)? Would I be right in thinking that? Vlad
Probably not, it depends on if the part is socketed or not and if the programming equipment is available. I imagine you're SOL, but I'm not intimately familiar with splashtop.
Elv13
MythBuntu is slower to boot, but it is so easy to setup, I just did it again few hours ago and it took less than 30min from formated drive to full setup with tv card and sharing over cifs. chconline Veteran Posted January 5, 2009 Veteran Share Posted January 5, 2009 Unfortunately you can't. The only things you are able to modify are minor settings like desktop, SOME browser settings, etc. I miss my P5E3-Deluxe :(
