+Mystic MVC Posted January 4, 2009 MVC Share Posted January 4, 2009 My brother and some friends of his were playing Guitar Hero II when he said it froze up and he had to shut it off. When he turned it on again, he got nothing on screen and 4 red lights. Normally that means your video cable is not plugged it so I checked all of his connections but he still gets 4 red lights. Is it time to call MS? I think he is covered but he actually got the 360 from a friend who had it repaired about 6 months ago. Will changing the console ownership over to my brother be a pain? LiGhTfast
If i remember it says something about changing ownership when starting the repair online, so your best bet would be to get your friend to get it repaired.
+Mystic MVC Posted January 4, 2009 Author MVC Share Posted January 4, 2009 Turns out it was three red lights. I wasn't looking at it right so I'm having him call MS to see about fixing it.
thealexweb
Microsoft has isolated this problem and it doesn't happen as much now, now that much a consolation to the people it does happen to though.
Kushan
It doesn't happen as much now on newer consoles, but from the sounds of it this console is fairly old (probably even pre-falcon) so it's not a big surprise that it Red-Ringed.

I'm almost 100% it is pre falcon. I know before my brother got it (from a friend) that friend had it fixed once. That was over a year and a half ago. I doubt that it even has the upgraded heatsink. I have to call back in about a half an hour because the very friendly and helpful rep said their computer system was having issues but I'm sure my brother will be able to send it in for a quality console. Have you tried booking the repair online? Whenever Microsoft's phone systems play up their online counterparts generally tend to work.

Whenever Microsoft's phone systems play up their online counterparts generally tend to work. Well since he traded a friend for the console and that friend had it repaired once already I had to call them. He had to get the console's registration switched over from the old owner to my brother. I also wanted to check the warranty of the console.
Kushan
The falcons only started showing up about 15months ago, so that's definitely pre-falcon. I forget the name of the board that they used, but the good news is that (I think) they actually replace the motherboards if it's an RROD-prone model (Not sure if this is all Motherboards or just the pre-HDMI ones) so if it gets fixed, hopefully it wont be an issue again. +Mystic MVC Posted January 5, 2009 Author MVC Share Posted January 5, 2009 Well talked the the second guy shortly after my last post and once again got another very friendly, easy to understand, and helpful person. I don't know what they changed but kudos MS, their tech support really has improved quite a bit. My brother's box should be here sometime this week, well at least I hope so. I want to make sure he doesn't everything right and gets it sent off correctly. :p
Konstanov
What's the turnaround on console repairs now? My Xbox 360 (pre-Falcon) got the RROD a few days ago.
TheReaperMan
mine went in before christmas and I got it back with in a week(replaced with a new one)
Kushan
It's pretty quick these days, I think they've more or less nailed the vast majority of RROD's since Falcons and later should be much less problematic and if you DO send in an old one, they completely replace the motherboard.
