+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted January 4, 2009 Subscriber² Share Posted January 4, 2009 Surprised to see GTA4 that high (above things like GoW/WaW), thought most people had abandoned it on consoles... Guess the PC port scared them all back :p
addc182
thats pretty good, the xbox original games are interesting. im surprised people sill play battlefront 2, but then again i would have expected rainbow six 3 to be much higher on that list, and no pgr?? gamerboy
finally the truth is revealed that CoD 5 is not played as much as people claim. Being beat by GoW should show people that it isn't a big hit like cod4. Goes to show you if you make two games the exact same the second won't sell (cod4 to cod5)
DrunknMunky Veteran Posted January 5, 2009 Author Veteran Share Posted January 5, 2009 Well, while I agree with you on GOW(2)/COD4 being better games than COD WaW, we don't know how they calculated this list. Is it solely the number of people who played the game, or how many hours were clocked playing? If its the former its not really fair to judge the game after only 3 months (less?) on the market, in comparison to Halo 3 / COD4.

If its the former its not really fair to judge the game after only 3 months (less?) on the market, in comparison to Halo 3 / COD4. The list is based on the total number of unique users that played the games, not the time spent playing. More people played Halo 3 than CoD4, how long they played doesn't factor in. I don't think it's a contest, so fairness isn't really an issue.

acnpt
I find quite alot of people are playing GTA. Didn't expect Guitar Hero to be so high though.
+Mystic MVC Posted January 5, 2009 MVC Share Posted January 5, 2009 Surprised to see GTA4 that high (above things like GoW/WaW), thought most people had abandoned it on consoles... Guess the PC port scared them all back :p I figured that was just because it was released so long ago where GoW and WaW were just released in November. I mean it just made sense to me, maybe I'm wrong.
Hierophant
If EA keeps setting up great ideas like the "Champions of Gaming" Tournament for Xbox Live, you're going to see Madden (and the rest of their games) on these lists for a long time. Definitely poured in a lot of hours into that this year.
Rappy Veteran Posted January 5, 2009 Veteran Share Posted January 5, 2009 No Left 4 Dead?, probably to late for the year.

Ayepecks
I'm surprised GTA IV has that many people playing, to be honest. I know it sold a ton of copies, but I found the multiplayer lacking, personally.

Being beat by GoW should show people that it isn't a big hit like cod4. Goes to show you if you make two games the exact same the second won't sell (cod4 to cod5) It seems to be doing fine IMHO given it arrived relatively late into the year. Being 6th out of all the online enabled 360 games seems to be an achievement in my books. At it's peak GoW was the most played Live game so for any title to be up near it isn't exactly a bad thing, especially when your still talking top 6 places. ynnoj
Are these figures based on users actually playing the multiplayer aspect of the game, or just clocking on and playing the campaign? Let's remember GoW2 and CoD: WaW were only released in November, as people have already pointed out.

That's why I think there has to be more than just the UU playing the game and time is a factor as well
Slane
Let's remember GoW2 and CoD: WaW were only released in November, as people have already pointed out. And in 2009 if the games are still being played you will see that list. This is just a list of the most played games that were played in 2008. When it was released how long it's been on the market, does not matter. All that matters is that it was played in '08 and this is where it ended up at. So I don't know why everyone is freaking about GTAIV being ahead of GoW2. It's been out far less and it's only one spot below a game that has half a year on it. I say grats GoW2. People were making the assumption (in several posts) that loads of people were still playing GTAIV as we speak. I was just trying to correct that by mentioning when it came out all the UU's that played it when the game was released.
