danisflying527
I currently have windows 7 32 bit beta My machine has 4gb of ram but I was wondering if it's worth getting 64 bit people say it makes 32 bit programs run slower, is that true?? mikeyakagod
Difference is 32bit doesn't have directx 11 libraries. 64bit does.

If your processor supports 64bit, go for it. The people who say 32bit runs slower are those who are still looking back at the way 64bit was years ago. Things have changed as manufacturers have solved a lot of the compatibility problems. So, in your case, you should actually see an increase in performance with 4gb ram. Ci7
Difference is 32bit doesn't have directx 11 libraries. 64bit does. No , they are identical
Mannlich
The idea that 64-bit runs slower is nonsense. If you have 4GB memory and an x64 processor, why not?
Max Veteran Posted January 8, 2009 Veteran Share Posted January 8, 2009 If you have over 3GB RAM, definately go with 64-bit. Thats pretty much the rule of thumb right now.

ale0crysis
Is it true though that some programs are not compatible? don't worry , windows seven is magic and there will be no more problems for compatibilities with everything.. :D
theyarecomingforyou
Even if you have less than 4GB of RAM you should go for the 64bit version. That gives you the flexibility to upgrade later and allows you to take advantage of software optimised for 64bit (it's not all about allowing more RAM). It's actually disappointing that Microsoft didn't do more to push 64bit with Vista. I really hope that with Win7 they put both on the same disc and default to 64bit where the hardware supports it. Driver support is great now.
Thirtythree
Difference is 32bit doesn't have directx 11 libraries. 64bit does. What difference does that make for what application?
mikeyakagod
No , they are identical I just went from 32bit to 64bit. 32bit definitely only had DX10 libs. DXDiag actually says DirectX11 in 64bit build, says DirectX10 in 32bit.
Fonze
Been using Vista x64 since SP1 came out and I'll never go back. You'd never know it was a 64-bit OS unless someone told you, it runs the same if not faster than 32-bit and you get to use 4GB+ of ram. So, I think it is safe to assume that Windows 7 would perform the same if not better.
sharp65
It shows up as DX11 for me under the 32-bit version.

DX11 doesn't exist in our OS and VGA yet (in some SH maybe yes) but it doesn't mean anything with the difference from the x86 and x64 :D
