Guest sendmarksmail
Any issues with MP3's anymore or is it fixed in these builds?
sharp65
You need to download the hotfix to correct the mp3 issue. It's currently only on msdn/technet. I'm sure it will be made public by friday.
tronador
no, these builds = leaked builds, but you can install the update to fix it.
crazlunatic
is it that you can only run 64 bit applications in a 64 bit OS? Wouldn't this cause many incompatibilities with programs, especially if you're someone that goes on lifehacker a lot and seem to download everything they post about

Brandon Live Veteran Posted January 8, 2009 Veteran Share Posted January 8, 2009 but see I usually don't use over 3GB's of ram, But I have 4 Unless you have some hardware or really obscure software that doesn't work properly on 64-bit Windows, then 64-bit is your best option. It'd be hard to find any hardware made in the last couple years that doesn't support it.
FloatingFatMan
Does anyone know how well a mobile T2330 processor will run the 64bit version? I'm pondering installing the 64bit edition of Win7 of my laptop to trial, which has a T2330 at 1.6ghz and 2gig of RAM. The machine shipped with Vista Home Premium 32bit, although Intel's spec sheet lists the T2330 as 64bit capable. I've yet to find any reviews of anyone running Vista 64bit on that processor... TBH, I prefer the additional security of 64bit, and I use Vista x64 on my desktop...
crazlunatic
seems like 64-bit is the better version. other than the problem with some hardware not supporting 64-bit, why are so many people still using 32-bit nowadays then?
FloatingFatMan
Well... I dropped Win7 x64 on my laptop last night, and everything is working perfectly. ALL hardware was detected and installed as it should be, so I'm happy. For anyone interested, it's an Acer Aspire 5715z with T2330 1.5ghz CPU, 2gig RAM, 80gb HD, X3100 integrated graphics. All hardware, including mousepad, wifi & wired NIC's and audio were detected and setup perfectly. Took about 30 minutes, but to be expected due to the slower 5400rpm HD's found in laptops. Definitely runs faster than Vista (which I'm dual booting with).
ale0crysis
yes, tested and tested again, it works faster Take x64 ASAP!
Inctye
yes, tested and tested again, it works faster Take x64 ASAP! I only have 2GB of memory, and still seeing a noticeable improvement in performance with 64bit compared to the 32bit version I was using a few days back. From now on, 64bit ftw! No going back to 32bit is history.
adisan
Which edition would be better for 1,5 gb RAM: x86 or x64? I have a x64 procesor. But I know that generally, x64 systems are still not as much supported as x86 (drivers, softwares, etc). Does the plus in performance worth it? This just isn't the case any more, not for any hardware produced in the last 2-3 years. If you have an x64 processor, then you would be better served moving to an x64 OS. hjf288
How do Core 2 quads work in x64? I know they are fast but dont they disable macro-ops fusion (Something which was fixed in nehalem) that means they run slightly slower.. by slight i mean REAL Slight.. ZombieFly
Ive been using 64bit vista since the first release. In the beginning i had to have it dual boot as there were many issues with drivers/program compatibility. For the last year i've dumped the 32bit version and i've been using 64bit exclusively with no issue. I can definately recommend it and for me 64bit is much faster than 32bit Vista. I was using 32bit windows 7, today i've reformatted and gone with the 64bit version, which i intend to stay with.

danisflying527
Alright, I think I'll continue with x86 till next week when I get my downloads back (used all up this month lol) Then I'll get x64
kylejn
I'm using Windows 7 x64 right now and am getting ready to switch to Windows 7 x86. There are a few programs I use daily (WinRoll, Peer Guardian) that are incompatible with x64. If I could just get a working download link for x86! Nano2k
I've read of several people having incompatibility issues with 64bit version of Windows 7. Personally I went from 64bits Vista to 32bits Vista long time ago and I thought it ran better and did not have certain issues I was having with 64bits version. Imho stay away of 64bits version for now, it seems the 64bits version is more beta than the 32bits. Just my 0.02$ not saying it's a fact at 100% Edited January 11, 2009 by Nano2k
san.W10
sorry for bumping the thread, but have some doubts with RAM and Win7 i'm ordering this Dell Studio XPS Desktop. Intel? Core i7> processorsIntel? Turbo Boost technologtri-channel DDR3b> memory 512MB ATI 4850 it comes with "Windows Vista? Home Premium 64 bit", but i'll install Windows 7 t:D :D the doubt: should i opt for 6GB DDR3 RAM or 4GB? That Desktop would be used more by my folks, so its basically Family Photo & family movie viewings only. So will Picasa 3 work in 64bit O:D :D & on weekends, i'll be gaming in it, will games like GTA4, Bully, COD4, 5, MW2, Cry Wars.... run in 64bit Windows7 w/o problems. If you're asking questions about hardware, post in the Hardware Hangout section. Just a thought for next time. :)) Back to your question, go with the 6 gig option. Not only is it (should be) triple channel memory, it's more! I'm not sure about Picasa though...
