DrunknMunky Veteran Posted January 9, 2009 Veteran Share Posted January 9, 2009 During the keynote speech as CES, Microsoft's Robbie Bach has revealed that the Halo franchise has sold a total of 25 million units, and the average Halo player has spent around 150 hours online with the first-person shooter. He also pinned a date on the upcoming Halo Wars ? the last title from Ensemble Studios ? set for release in the US on February 28, with a demo due on Xbox Live on February 5. Bach also confirmed that Bungie's Halo 3: ODST, originally revealed last years as Halo 3: Recon, is still on track for a 2009 release. The boss of Microsoft's Entertainment and Devices Division also used the CES stage to reiterate the console's success in 2008. "With 28 million consoles sold worldwide, an active online community of 17 million members, and more than USD 1 billion spent on Xbox Live since the launch of the Xbox 360, it?s clear that consumer demand for these great entertainment experiences has never been higher," said Bach. "We're only beginning to scratch the surface of what?s possible with Xbox." Microsoft claims that online spend over the Xbox Live service rose 84 per cent in 2008. The company also demoed Xbox Live Community Game Kodu, a game designed for all ages to try their hand at creating a videogame, in a similar vein to Sony's LittleBigPlanet. To emphasise the ease of use, Microsoft brought on a 12 year-old girl to play her creation. Xbox Live Primetime was also mentioned, with Bach saying the TV and quiz channel will launch this spring, again showing 1 Vs 100, which allows players to play online for real prizes.[/Source: GameIndustry.bizurl]

+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted January 9, 2009 Subscriber² Share Posted January 9, 2009 (edited) Well done Halo, you've turned into a casual FPS monster! Only decent game with 4 player split co-op as well. Makes it an incredibly useful game at parties, as no one really likes sitting around watching others play, so the more you can get playing the better (Y) Edited January 11, 2009 by PureLegend

The Teej
That's good going, considering the entire franchise has only been out 7 years and only has 5 games (including PC). Most franchises need like 12 different games to reach that amount, lol (and a lot longer, too). With Halo Wars coming out soon, that number is sure to increase :)

DrunknMunky Veteran Posted January 11, 2009 Author Veteran Share Posted January 11, 2009 Thread cleanedNo. No. No. No. No. I will NOT let this turn into another PS3 vs 360 thread. On topic: I wonder if that Halo Wars demo will be available in the UK. No idea what I missed in the topic, but anyways.. Halo Wars demo arriving in four weeksNews by Oli Welsh More droplets of news trickle out of Microsoft's rather dry CES keynote address in Las Vegas last night: Xbox 360 strategy spin-off Halo Wars is to get a demo on 5th February (as reported by IGN and GameSpot). That's four weeks from now, and three weeks ahead of its release. That release date is now the 28th February in the US, three days earlier than previously announced - but we assume the European date of the 27th February remains unchanged. Bach reminded everyone that expansion pack Halo 3: ODST is coming out this year, and trumpeted total sales of 25 million copies for the Halo series to date. When he wasn't blowing smoke up Bungie's rings or making games with children, Bach spent the the presentation slapping himself on the back for selling lots of consoles, getting 17 million active users on Xbox live (three million in the last three months), increasing the size of friends lists by 33 per cent since introducing Avatars in November, and accounting for 80 per cent of download sales in the war of the multi-format music games. Allegedly. There was also some stuff about a new Windows. Viva Las Vegas. Source: Eurogamer
