GOW2 scratched disk

Recommended Posts

I just bought my xbox 360 less than two days ago along with GOW2, about 30 minutes ago I accidentally kicked over the xbox while the game was playing...... you guys probably know what that grinding sound meant lol. I popped the disk out and there were 6 perfect rings on the back of the DVD. I know about the disk replacement plan that microsoft has going on, but I just bought this game a couple of days ago so I don't want to blow another $23.50 on it. The game comes up in the dashboard but it rarely loads up for more than 3 seconds. That brings me to my question, would I be able to rent the game, save it to my hard disk and use my disk to play the saved copy? Any help would be appreciated. This happened right after I finished the game and was about to start playing online so it was a pretty hard kick in the nuts.

i can say it does work. my mate's mate did exactly the same thing and i installed the game for him using my copy and he could continue to play it with his scratched copy on the basis he played from the HDD

How would it be illeagal if I rented the game and installed it on the 360? I wouldn't even be able to play it without a legit copy, that's why the disc check feature was implemented by MS.

Then I buy my own legit copy of the game, allbeit a little scratched and therefore cheaper off of some Foo' and hey presto, I am playing it 100% legit.

I would have thought, unless there's some sort of clause that states that the game you play off the hard drive must be from the same disc as the one you are using to verify the install, if so that'd just be stupid!

I agree here, you are buying a legal copy albeit damaged and pretty much useless. As said unless there is a check that the install does to see if the disk is the same as the installed image then I really see nothing wrong with it. You've purchased the game no matter what the condition. Consider it buying a registration key but installing the game from a friends CD's :)

No I'm talking about renting a game and swapping your scratched disk with the rented one.

Not sure about the illegal side on that I guess certainly dishonest possibly classed as theft.

Ahh right yeah, technically I guess it is illeagal as you're not returning the stores property.

But there's not much of a way they would know whether you have swapped the disc out or just scratched it yourself.

Either way, they aint guonna be happy!

Yeah I'm probably just going to end up getting a replacement disk from microsoft, the reason why I didn't in the first place is because I didnt have a credit card but I just got one of those refillable Credit cards yesterday so I'm guessing that should work.
