Kreuger
Okay so I recently moved and ever since then I've had no sound on my desktop. I went through all my settings and all my programs to make sure nothing was muted and it won't work. I plugged my laptop and mp3 player into the speakers so I know they are fine. I checked to make sure my Audigy 2 ZS was set as the default sound card in the computer and nothing. I tried changing my sound card to another slot which made no difference. However, I just noticed that when I plug my speakers into it, you can hear a little buzz that it makes on connection. So as far as I can tell the card is still good (I was worried because it cost me a lot of money). Somewhere in ubuntu there is something stopping sound from playing. I have tried to use my onboard sound but it has never worked for me (I cant even find it in the bios to see if it's enabled). So I'm out of sound now and it's driving me crazy. A little side note: guy I know pointed out the fact it's free software which is crap (to him) and said basically you get what you pay for. I just smiled and shrugged it off
Lechio
If it was working before, nothing would stop it from working now. Nothing was changed in the software, you just moved your PC to another place, so... The first thing that comes to mind is it should related to that. I would check if everything is plugged correctly. Trust me on this, really do the check. There's this one guy I know who... OK me... spent a couple of hours trying to get sound from the card, checking and altering all possible configurations, even compiling the ALSA module from source, till finding out that the speakers were connected wrongly in the back.. :pinch: Also boot with a LiveCD and check if the card works OK there. Kreuger
Well it's colour coded so unless I've become colour blind, I'm pretty sure I matched the green plug into the green hole on the card :p I'll have to make a new live cd and try it out as I have none here. By the way, when it was moved my computer sat in a car overnight so it was pretty cold out (but I was under the impression it wasnt bad for a computer). That was why I thought maybe it had fried, it got too cold? But everything else works fine. And as far as I can see, it's not cracked or anything
Fish
I tend to agree with Lechio - if it was working before, it should be working now. The cold shouldn't of made any difference, unless you took it from extreme cold into a warm, humid atmosphere, when condensation could form on some components, which is never a good thing. Try running alsamixer anyway, just to check if anything has been muted/turned down. In a terminal type alsamixer Anything muted will have "MM" in the box beneath it. Press "M" to unmute. Use the cursor keys to move between outputs and raise/lower volume levels. Press [Escape] to exit.
Kreuger
I thought the same thing but I've been trying for a while now to get it working. Everything in alsamixer, KMix and the XFCE volume manager are all maxed, nothing is muted. It was room temperature (obviously) inside. Not sure how cold it was but I guess likely below zero given the time of year.
