blehbleh
If i turn off my computer using hibernation it automatically turns on at exactly 03:00 every night. (Maybe does if i use real shut down also, havn't tried...always use hibernation). I have disabled automatic updates and have skimmed through the task scheduler but couldn't see any event at that time. This is driving me nuts because i sleep in the room where i have the computer so it kinda wakes me up. What makes it even more annoying is that it does this even if the computer only has battery-power! I've woke up every time it happens and turned the computer off but if i wouldn't have done this, would it have left it on then and drained all the battery? danisflying527
Maybe you should try turn it off and see if it is only hibernation that is the problem Otherwise like Max said auto wakeup might be set in BIOS
cork1958
Yep, It'll be a setting in your bios. You should use standby instead of hibernate anyway also, or simply turn it off, which is what I would/do do.
Sparky Marky
3am is also the default time for windows update to run, have a look and change the time if it is still 3:00.

blehbleh
maybe is the media center: the guide update or the optimization. happen to me in vista....sorry for my bad inglish  Hmm, maybe...have turned it off now, will see if it works tonight. But it clearly says: "Windows Media Center waits until you connect to the internet, and then download Guide updates". I wouldn't say the computer is connected to the internet when it's turned off :p I've checked BIOS and was no such setting there :/ You should use standby instead of hibernate anyway also, or simply turn it off, which is what I would/do do. Why? Standby consumes power and if i turn it off i loose all my active programs and it takes 1min instead of 15sec to start up(not counting the extra time it takes to reopen all programs). Also, standby makes an annoying led blink on the front of the computer :@ Edited January 15, 2009 by blehbleh

Elliot B.
Check your network card settings. There is a 'wake up' setting.
Steven P. Administrators Posted January 15, 2009 Administrators Share Posted January 15, 2009 You can also disable Wake Up On Lan in the BIOS settings, because despite the computer being in a low power state (it's still on even if in Hibernation) the PC can still be brought up by a program checking for updates online! Mind you this is a guess as well because I have never used the WUOL feature for any PC I've had.
InPCHell
Sorry to bump such an old topic, but I have this same problem. I use hibernate pretty much exclusively unless I know that I won't be on the PC for a while. I've checked virtually every setting in the BIOS, under power management, and in the Windows Update settings. A few seconds after I Hibernate, the PC wakes back up on its own. redvamp128
Well you could try the following, open up your registry editor , do a search for 03:00 maybe come up lucky and find a key to see if what could be listed there to cause it to come on at that time.
