What we're up to and Twitter

Recommended Posts

Well hello there! It's been a while, hasn't it?

I just wanted to pop in and say we have been working hard to get something working. Currently we have a working Arch Linux distribution ready to preview, but we need to brand it before we ship it due to a few copyright and trademark issues. I'm hoping we can get that taken care of over the weekend.

Keeping everyone up to date on big things is easy through the forums and the front page, but a few less notable things have happened lately, and we haven't known what to do about them. So we've decided that Twitter is a good solution for us. Obviously Twitter is fairly common for projects like ours, which are user driven, so we think this is long overdue. If you want to follow us, just do so here: http://twitter.com/shiftlinux

I'd like to schedule a meeting, too. This weekend would be best, depending on everyone's availability. We want it to be an open, "town hall" meeting, and are planning on holding it on Sunday, January 18 (that's this Sunday!), at 1:00 EST. (That's 2:30 NST, my time zone. For your time zone, see here.

We haven't halted the project. Far from it. But the early development stages were best done behind the scenes, so we could get the right infrastructure in place.

On Sunday we'll have some announcements for you. I hope everyone can make it.

Meeting details:

  • Who? Everyone who has some amount of interest in the project.
  • What? A Shift Linux organization meeting
  • Where? Neowin IRC. More details on connecting can be found here. We don't have a standard IRC server, so figure out your connection early to avoid problems later.
  • When? Sunday, January 18, 2009, 1:00 PM EST
  • Why? To get everyone on the same page and determine the future direction of Shift Linux

Cool!

I can't wait to try it!

Are you going to make it as user-friendly as the mainstream distributions?

;)

For anyone who doesn't really know what we're about, but might be interested, feel free to come along as well. A lot of this meeting will be about solidifying our identity as a Linux distro, where we want to go, how we'll be different, etc.
