Ubuntu from USB Stick?

Recommended Posts

I have an old laptop that has a video card, so it has TV-out capability. However, the HD is no longer functioning. Would it be possible to run a Ubuntu distro off a USB stick (and thus act has the HD) and be able to watch HD videos off a CD-ROM? I'm not sure how the video works. If it has to be taken to the HD then processed it will obviously not work because of the low data transfer speeds.

is Replacing the HD not an option? you can make a live usb, im not sure though how to make it work as a Full OS. you could boot from a diff device, CD for example, and install it to the USB, you can try, make sure the boot order is USB first. too.
