Benedict
Hello all, Recently installed GTA 4 on a brand new laptop, which (as far as I can tell) meets all requirements to run the game. It isn't a monster, but it'll do.. Specs: Intel Core 2 Duo T8300 2.4ghz 4GB RAM Vista 32-bit NVidia Geforce 8600M GS 512mb Even with resolution set as low as possible, and with all sliders at their minimum, I'm lucky if I can average 3 or 4fps. I'm completely out of ideas. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

Sethos
Hey, You are not the only one with this problem, plenty of people are having tons of issues with the PC version of the game, mainly due to bad porting. Only thing I can suggest besides heavy upgrading is checking out this forum; http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showforum=240 there's lots of tweaks and fixes circulating over there, specially this stickied tweak http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=384473 it really helped me back before I upgraded, gave me a 10-15FPS boost but does require some work. SQ1
GTA IV is very unpredictable. it can run slow even on top state of the art pc's... and ok in others. My desktop is a Core2Duo E8200 @ 3.6ghz, 2Gb DDR3 1400mhz and 8800GT 512mb. It was a bit sluggish at first, but with the last release drivers it runs very good on High settings. I can only advise you to do the same, get the more recent drivers u can find :)
Benedict
Thanks, I'll try there next.. Will let you know. It's just frustrating, as i know my machine WILL run it with playable fps, it simply doesn't seem to want to.. Thanks for the quick replies, keep em coming.. :p
Benedict
Nothing so far.. I'm really pulling my hair out over this one. No matter what I try, it won't play higher than 5fps, which is completely unplayable. I know there are inferior spec machines working perfectly, and I'm at a loss to know what to do now.. Benedict
Yes, both.. No change - Starting to think it was a waste of money.. Feel like there's something tiny i'll have overlooked. Usually works like that with me.
Benedict
Nope. Screwed. No matter how many commandline parameters I try, nothing above 5fps. HELP. It's all I can say
Sethos
There's not much you can do, buy an insane gamer PC sporting an Intel i7 or get your money back.
Benedict
Hehe true.. Is there anything anyone can think of that I might have overlooked. Something obvious, maybe, that I've skimmed over. I don't have the money for another PC - this laptop only arrived 2 days ago.
Samn9
There is nothing you can do, aside from get another PC or rewrite the game yourself. No driver, tweak, command or mod will make this game playable :(

MR_Candyman
Reminds me of Need For Speed: Undercover. It was only running at 3fps on this machine (which blows the recommended specs out of the water) and yet runs over 60fps on my other machine (which is actually a bit better than this one, but not nearly enough to account for that). I tried all the fixes, ect. but just decided to only play it on the other machine.
