Gears of War 2 Update Out

Recommended Posts

I disagree, but I've not even touched or really payed attention to GoW2 since November. Everytime I read a topic about the issues though, there is Mystic backing it up like there is no issue as long as he can play.

I can easily go through the topics on NW to back this up, but I don't think its really necessary.

I'm not pushing my opinion on anyone, but to say the game doesn't have issues is an outright lie. It's laughable anybody would even try to say otherwise. Otherwise, why would I and others be avoiding it like the plague? I didn't buy the game for it to sit on my shelf 24/7..

What a joke. If you look at my original post in this thread, I am ACKNOWLEDGING other people are having issues. I merely state that I am not. To say that I am saying "it doesn't have issues" is a lie and twisting of my words (in a phrase you used earlier to quote me).

It seems like anytime you see a post like this, you come in here to comment on the system when you say you haven't touched in since November. I'm sorry you don't play it, but debating me when you personally haven't played it in a while, seems silly. Now, I know you could say well I'll put it in right now and then say I'm having issues, without any of us knowing the real truth, but I'm just saying..

I know there are people having issues... but I think a lot of the people commenting never even gave it a chance after the first patch was released. It's still fun to me and works fast.

You said in reply #22 that the game isn't broken, now you're acknowledging it's broken for some people? Make your mind up!

At the end of the day, the game is broken, it's not playing how it should, no matter how many are/aren't having issues. I don't need to play it myself every day to see if its still in the same state, I hear from others all the time they are still having issues. Sure I can check myself if it works better now, but whats the use when the people I want to play can't?

And are you serious? You think I'd lie over something petty like that just for the sake of the forum? O....k (Y)

So you can twist me words and act like nothing?

I said it isn't broken, that doesn't mean some people won't have issues. Halo 3 has matchmaking issues (takes longer in Halo 3 to get into a match for me) for some people, but would I consider it broken? No.

Thought about sending you an invite today while we were on to show you how quickly we get into matches, but by that time we were already into another match. :p If I were trying to make an argument, I still can't say how your friends opinions make yours valid when you don't touch it. Whatever I guess.

Thanks for acknowledging Ayepecks though sounds like he is playing the game lately to know whats going on.

Ummm...

Both of you shut up?

Thank you.

I wish I played online, I finally finished the SP campaign (my coop buddy is no longer around :( )

Since no game is perfect, you could say they're all broken. And then we could all live happily ever after with our reasonable expectations.

Gears 2 is in a far worse situation than what Halo 3 ever was. The proof? Well for starters its number 4 on the top 10 list at MN. A recently launched AAA game and it's not even infront of COD4/Halo 3? Yeah, something is majorly wrong.

Good for you if it works at the end of the day, I wish I could play it with friends and not have any issues. I've gave up waiting on Epic fixing it and now waiting for the Q1 games that are coming out :)

ps: I actually got the invite but I was playing another game at the time, sorry (Y)

I wouldn't call that proof of much. Both series are on their third title or farther out, and ones fanbase tends to grow with every game in the series.

Either way I'd love to play it online, when I get a reasonable connection I probably will.

Woo hoo! I'm glad you finally brought that up. It's called completely different gameplay. The three games ahead of it, require all the same strategy which is completely opposite of Gears. In Gears, you have to stick with your team or you are screwed. Even in one vs. one battles, you can't approach it with the same strategy as Halo/COD. No doubt Gears is a lot harder, requires more strategy, etc. The only one slightly comparably is Halo because like Gears, it takes more than a couple shots. Any new player in COD can get kills with that logic. Sadly in Halo, one person can still takeover a match by himself.

All of that has even put off one of my friends who argues it is just too hard. He relishes playing COD 4, which is fine because I quite enjoy the game too. I'm just saying you, can't tell me the same kind of people play this game as the other three which drives down the numbers playing.

The matchmaking does take quite a long time, but I like the game, so it's a minor bug to me, and it doesn't bother me that much. Wish Epic fixed it, but I don't really care ;)

It seems to me they are trying to squeeze everything they can out of those rarely appearing maps. I really hate MP based achievements since that is really just a luck of the draw.

Yeah, I've always thought there shouldn't be multiplayer achievements...

It's impossible to see the fixes if you're not even willing to try it.

It doesn't matter if I want to see them or not. I want to know that the fixes are there before I get back in to playing it.

Honestly, if the game didn't have issues at the start and now then it would be higher up in the charts but because Epic has taken their sweet time, loads of people have given up on it.

It has nothing to do with the gameplay because Gears of War was number 1 and top 3 for ages. Gears of War 2 isn't, kind of odd considering 4 million copies has sold. (I think)

There is no excuse for keeping us waiting for 3 months for a patch!

But enough of that, I too hate MP Only achievements.

It is still broken for the majority of people - END OF - there is no debate it is plain and simple, you can see this by the complete lack of people playing it in comparrison to other games. I mean I loved Gears of War and played it pretty much every single day until the day that Gears of War 2 came out. Since I got 1,000 / 1,000 on Gears 2 back into the box it went, it won't see the light of day until these problems are fixed, why? Because I play games to have fun and enjoy myself. I don't want to sit there and suffer because some a-hole developers got lazy and didn't fully test and check the game before it went gold. I also find it highly disturbing that it has taken nearly 3 months (and its not even out yet) Lets not forgot we only heard an official response about the problems from Epic at the start of the new year, I mean come on that is a joke I do not consider that, that in anyway shows respect to your customers who have paid good money for a unfinished game!

Amen!

I don't see WHY they scrapped the old matchmaking system? Am I the only one who thinks that it was awesome!?

Yeah I prefered the old matchmaking system, where you could choose what gamemode and what map you wanted to play, with the length of bleedout, and round time!

Oh and btw I just got a text of my mate he says that the patch is out now!

Gears 2 - Update Out Now!

Exploit Fixes

Title Update 2 fixes these possible exploits, where under certain circumstances:

* A player could melee or grenade tag through certain walls.

* A player could equip a shield and a two-handed weapon simultaneously.

* A player could make their shield invisible.

* A player could become invisible.

* A player could do a "super" mantle or "kung fu flip," flying high into the air.

* A player could gain unlimited ammo with the Lancer Assault Rifle.

* A player could fire while roadie running (also known as "crabwalking").

* A player could pick up a weapon while sliding into cover.

* A player could walk forward while firing a deployed mortar.

* A player could force an opponent to be stuck in the down but not out (DBNO) position.

* A player could prevent other players from picking up a heavy weapon.

* A player could pick up a dropped meatflag without having to knock him down.

* A ragdolled player could be killed without ever going DBNO.

* A player could roadie run while firing the Scorcher Flamethrower.

* A player could get stuck while evading, though they could continue shooting in any direction.

* A player could concuss themselves under the stairs on the River map.

General Fixes

Title Update 2 fixes these other issues as well:

* An issue with client-side hit detection of the Gnasher Shotgun. The fix makes the shotgun more reliable in high-latency situations.

* An issue where players could have shotgun or Boomshot rounds fire into the ground when shooting from the hip.

* A split-screen issue where one player transitioning to the death battle camera disrupted input from the other player.

* An issue that could cause players' Look sensitivity to be changed to their Zoom sensitivity while zooming in, zooming out, and firing.

* An issue that could cause players to get stuck if they tried to pick up a heavy weapon while firing the shotgun at the same time.

* An issue where players could become stuck if they kicked over a shield while ragdolled from a smoke grenade.

* An issue where bots were unable to kick over a shield that was planted backward.

* An issue where players who quit during voting didn't show up in the end game stats, which meant other players couldn't easily provide negative feedback on them.

* An issue where players couldn't chainsaw enemy meatshields if the meatshields were already damaged.

* An issue where some players would not see the animation of a meatshield being chainsawed.

* An issue where players could not chainsaw an opposing team meatshield in a game type that doesn't allow respawns (for example, Warzone and Execution).

* An issue where a player partway through the act of raising or lowering the chainsaw did not transition into a duel when attacked from the front with a chainsaw.

* An issue where occasionally a player waiting to respawn could not respawn when repeatedly hitting the left trigger to switch cameras.

* An issue where some teammates couldn't communicate between rounds in games type that don't allow respawns, because dead team members were left in the dead radio channel until the next round started.

* An issue where a DBNO player could be seen as standing if knocked DBNO while reloading the mortar.

* An issue where a player joining a Private Xbox LIVE game in progress from another specific type of game could potentially lose HUD functionality.

* An issue on the Flood map where a player's dying from Imulsion did not trigger a death message or penalize the player as other environmental deaths did.

* An issue with Guardian games where if the leader is the last player killed on a team, the round may not end, due to the respawn timer.

* A campaign issue where the gamer picture would not be awarded when the game is completed on Insane.

* An issue where a player would continue to fire the flamethrower and damage other players if that player was knocked DBNO while firing it.

* An issue that could cause a player to get stuck while moving and quickly attempting to aim the mortar at the same time.

* An issue with Horde games where clients didn't receive the "waiting for host" message after they failed a wave.

* A Horde split-screen issue that could cause a team to get ?2 billion in score, which when posted to the leaderboards looked like +2 billion.

* An issue where dead players may not show up in the metadata for multiplayer photos.

* A system link issue where if a multiplayer match and a co-op game were hosted at the same time on the same LAN, neither could be joined.

* Additional miscellaneous bug fixes.

<Balancingb>

Title Update 2 makes these balancing changes:

* Made planted proximity grenade mines much easier to shoot off the surface they're planted on, by giving them 50 percent less health.

* Set grenades to respawn less frequently. When a player picks up grenades from a spawned location, a new set of grenades does not respawn until the previous grenades have been used.

* Increased the penalty to rank for players who quit Public Xbox LIVE matches early.

* Buffed the flamethrower to have stopping power (to slow a charging enemy) and to cause a chainsaw interrupt (to force the opponent to lower a revved chainsaw).

* Removed the ability to instantly shoot coming out of a roadie run.

* Added additional spawn protection to prevent proximity grenade mines and chainsaws from killing a player within 5 seconds after spawning.

* Balanced grenade spawn cycling on the Hail map so that both teams have equal access to both types of grenades.

We continue to test internally and monitor online gameplay to determine what else may need adjusting.

<Improvementsb>

Title Update 2 makes these new improvements:

* Changed Annex games to use execution rules, to prevent players from leaving DBNO opponents on the ground to bleed out.

* Made Horde waves count toward the "Party Like It's 1999" achievement. Each wave is counted as one round.

* Added the ability, during Submission games, to see the flag's final destination by using Tac/Com.

* Increased the frequency of most of the toasts for in-game achievement progression.

* Added achievement progression numbers to the War Journal.

* Added 7 new DLC-based achievements worth 175 points (progress toward them starts after Title Update 2 is applied):

o "Skeletons in Your Closet" (20 points): Complete waves 1 through 10 on all Flashback Map Pack maps in Horde (any difficulty).

o "Trial by, and on, Fire" (20 points): Complete waves 1 through 10 on all Combustible Map Pack maps in Horde (any difficulty).

o "More Mystery, Less History" (15 points): Win a multiplayer match on each of the 5 Flashback Map Pack maps (any mode except Wingman).

o "The Roof! The Roof! The Roof?" (15 points): Win a multiplayer match on each of the 3 Combustible Map Pack maps (any mode except Wingman).

o "Bound by a Shared Past" (15 points): Win a Wingman match on each of the 5 Flashback Map Pack maps.

o "Forged in the Fire" (15 points): Win a Wingman match on each of the 3 Combustible Map Pack maps.

o "Annex: Now with Execution Rules" (75 points): Win an Annex match on each of the Flashback and Combustible Map Pack maps (Public only).

Are the only people having issues with the matchmaking system from Europe? No one in North America seems to be suffering, or is it just coincidence?

Nope, I have the issue right here in the frigid mid-west.

Wow, some of those things should not had happened in the first place if they did more testing.

I am sure that hasn;t fixed them all and has probably opened up some more.

One thing I saw absent from that list was Unlimited Ammo for the Shotgun. I see they fixed it for the Lancer but not for the Shotgun. I got that a few times (N)

Just noticed this -

A system link issue where if a multiplayer match and a co-op game were hosted at the same time on the same LAN, neither could be joined.

That is pretty much crazy how that wasn't sorted earlier!

Will give the new patch a try later when I get my jobs done.
