DrunknMunky Veteran Posted January 21, 2009 Veteran Share Posted January 21, 2009 We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so then the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine-and-a-half years? What an ass, seriously, Sony trust this guy to be the CEO? Jeez..

Xero
Not going to start defending Sony as they say a lot of dumb crap but the Xbox does lack longevity, it doesn't have the hardware to outlast the competition, the Wii is the same. While some might consider this a con, in their eyes its seen as a pro. They no doubt will release updated hardware before Sony. Thus getting the same sales lead they had before. Nintendo probably won't they like sticking with dated hardware because it still sells. Microsoft deliberately used dated hardware because it was cheaper to use and encourage users to upgrade to the next version.
C_Guy
Wasn't it just the other day they were crapping on Nintendo for lack of innovation? Now today they say Nintendo isn't their competition? I guess it's better to dismiss Nintendo as in a "completely separate market" than to admit that they beat them badly. I see his point though, how many times do you see Wii consoles and accessories next to PS3 or 360 ones? How many times do you see the Wii/DS games next to PS3/PSP? Not often. Nintendo's usually have a "Sorry, sold out" sign ;) Seriously though, this is the sort of garbage a company spews out to prevent buyer's remorse. It's hard to believe that this is their strategy. Their winning strategy is to tell the world what is "wrong" with Wii and 360 rather than give people a reason to feel good about buying an over-priced console that just can't win. Microsoft is simply more grown up than that and Nintendo is too bust trying to keep shelves stocked after more than 2 years because demand is still overwhelming. Yeah, that sounds like a couple of losers to me ;) "I'd like to think that we continue official leadership in this industry." How in the world can you continue something you lost a long time ago? This guy needs to take a break from his PS3 and check out a wonderful thing called reality.

Except the hardware in the 360 is just as good as the hardware in the PS3, sans the Blu-ray drive, so your argument really only applies to the Wii. -Spenser

treyarch+
I mean I've seen both the 360 and PS3 come out with 3D games that require glasses, but I think both consoles will equally have the same length in longevity.
bobbytomorow
10 year lifecycle? lolwut The PlayStation had an 11 or 12 year cycle and the PS2 is still going strong after 9 years.
DPyro
He's referring to the Playstation 1 and 2.I'm amazed how he can say that Microsoft hasn't had a console yet last 4 years, yet they're committed to a 10 year scenario.... ummm, hate to break it to him, but this isn't last generation. Yes, Microsoft was behind. But given that the 360 has already surpassed the original Xbox, I think it's a bit moot to try and compare the two. Microsoft was just getting started with the original. So? The first console Sony came out with lasted 10 years, why shouldn't they compare it to the Xbox?
spenser.d
So? The first console Sony came out with lasted 10 years, why shouldn't they compare it to the Xbox? Because the circumstances were still different. The Xbox entered into an already saturated market whereas the market was still relatively new when the Playstation entered it. -Spenser

Sega had already announced they were pulling the DC... all the Xbox had to go up against was PS2 and a Nintendo coming off of a very weak cycle were it lost a ton of 3rd party support with the N64. Oh right, the PS1 and PS2 won by being the most technologically advanced and having the best graphics, and the N64 and Xbox 1 just couldn't keep up because of their inferior hardware... (nevermind the fact that the 360 is just as well if not better equipped for gaming by all practical measures)

The PS1 smashed its competitors despite having lower specs and the PS2 was inferior spec wise to the GCN and the Xbox and still smashed them as well. Now we have the PS3 which is arguably more powerful than its competition if not at least neck and neck.
