Hirai: Xbox "lacks longevity"

Where exactly are you going here?

Perhaps if you read the post to which I responded you wouldn't have to ask that.

The PS1 smashed its competitors despite having lower specs and the PS2 was inferior spec wise to the GCN and the Xbox and still smashed them as well. Now we have the PS3 which is arguably more powerful than its competition if not at least neck and neck.

Right, thanks for repeating what I just said.

Would that not mean that the Wii will smash the PS3 and Xbox 360 in sales considering its inferior in specification if one thing has been proven its that technological superiority means nothing when it comes to selling well.

Well since the Wii has already taken the sales lead tha is true. The big difference this time is that the Wii is no longer aimed at the same audience as the PS3 and 360, casual games and soccer mom silliness kind of take the Wii out of the debate in my mind. This is a two horse race when it comes to more engaged gaming.

The success of the 360 could probably be told in the amount of systems that the stores have in stock. For instance, I bought my xbox 360 a couple of days ago from a local Wal-mart. Snatched up the last Pro unit, and they had one more Elite unit in stock. Ironically it was the Indiana Jones, Kung-Fu Panda bundle, but hey, not complaining. They also mentioned that they had a hard time keeping the systems themselves in stock because they keep selling out before more shipments come in. While I was debating on buying a PS3, I noticed that the PS3s had a full range of systems stocked up, to the point where it looks like no one is buying them, and Wii's are non-existent here, they sell out too quickly.

Now I know from experience that goes back to the NES, and buying it's launch unit, that if a console is selling out, it's doing well, if it's not, then obviously it doesn't seem to be selling as well.
