JasonC
Hey all. I've just got my new custom Dell laptop, which is great but having an issue with a few things. First, I have just IE7 open with 2 tabs, windows live messenger and itunes and its using 1.58Gig of ram, is there anyway I can tune it down a little? Is there any programs / processes that are part of vista that I can stop / disable? Also, internet surfing seems to be quite slow, it wasn't a problem before with my old laptop on XP, im quite close to my router, but seems slow, I'm kinda new to vista so I don't know many tweakes yet lol. Laptop has vista home premium on.
phot0nic
As for your first question, just forget about it. I mean, if your computer is physically slower, then maybe we can work something out. However, if you're just looking at the large numbers and freaking out, you need to understand that Vista utilizes memory allocation better than previous versions of Windows. Vista's method is far superior, so just let it be. Also, don't listen to anyone who tells you to disable any services. There will be no significant performance improvement, and you're likely to cripple the OS's functionality. As for the second question, I'm not sure. Try to update your network card drivers? Alternatively, you can try turning off IPv6. I wouldn't necessarily recommend that, but I've heard some people have had luck improving network performance.
