Redhacker Help

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to change my shutdown/logoff panels but it's not working. I open the appropriate files in Reshacker and I replace the bitmaps with the ones I downloaded, they're labelled but I also followed a tutorial to make sure they're in the right place, and they are. Then I go to file > save, and nothing. If I open the file again in Reshacker the bitmaps are back to the default ones. I've downloaded the WFP patch and applied it too, but still nothing. I did manage to somehow get the background image to change briefly once but none of the others were applied, and after I restarted the computer even that was back to the default. Does anyone have any tips on what to do? I think I just don't know how to save properly.

I read it has something to do with "_original" files, but I have no idea what from what I found when I Googled it.

One forum said:

"I think there's a fault in the instructions. Where it says "Save the file and exit Reshacker", it should say "Save the file with a new name and exit Reshacker".

When you try to save msgina.dll as msgina.dll, Reshacker will first create a backup, msgina_original.dll, and then try to save the changes to msgina.dll. Only it can't, because it is a system file. So what you wind up with is two identical files, msgina.dll and msgina_original.dll.

If you open and edit msgina_orginal.dll with Reshacker, and then use msgina.dll as the original in Replacer and msgina_original.dll as the new, I think you'll find you can sucessfully change your menus."

And the other:

"Return to ResHack and your "1033". Right clic on it and "replace ressource". Browse to your new bitmap. In the Menu, save your work (ResHack always create a _original one)."

Now, go replacing the modified dll : rename the original in .old and paste the new.

Restart to show change."

I don't know what either of them are saying though.

EDIT: Sorry about the title, I meant Reshacker obviously.

1. edit the dll with reshacker.

2. save as the file to somewhere. (i.e; your desktop)

3. download replacer and use replacer to replace the system file. (you will see what to do because replacer tells you what exactly you need to do)

4. restart.

done.
