ikonizer
I made the jump from the 32 bit release of 8.10, to the 64 bit version. Here is my problem. The 32 bit version of Ubuntu 8.10 has no issues with the screen, but the 64 bit version causes a rapid, jagged tearing motion back and forth with the display. Toshiba L305D (Laptop) AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-60 3GB RAM ATI X1250 Integrated 1280x800 resolution / 60Hz I have not tried installing the driver from AMD/ATI yet, but I would fail to see how the 32-bit version worked just fine without it. Anyone have any ideas? EDIT: Upon restarting Ubuntu for the second or third time, the problem was gone. Bug, perhaps? Lechio
Install the ATI driver.
ikonizer
That's going to be difficult, seeing as how the tearing and jagged edges make it nearly impossible to read anything on the screen.
Lechio
Do it from a tty. Press CTRL+ALT+F1 , login and type: sudo apt-get install xorg-driver-fglrx fglrx-amdcccle Then just edit the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file using nano or any other console based text editor. CTRL+ALT+F7 to go back to the Xsession and restart your Xserver with CTRL+ALT+Backspace.
