All you creative clever people....

Question

I was asked by a family member to re-design a website for them, i know basics of web designing, and i have macromedia and stuff like that...but what i lack is creativeity (spelled wrong). I need ideas, examples or whatever..because i would really like to impress them. There is no payment involved so this is being done free by me (for if someone thought otherwise). Please help me....the website is looking like this at the moment... Rocbit South Africa

well you can prolly take some notes by seeing what 'wrong' with current page...

1. too casual look... try something more professional

- ever thought of navigation-bar on left, headlines-bar on right of page, title pane on center top and page frame on center bottom? this is how my webpage is shaped out

2. graphics are not nice in current page... too big... why use a map?

- get rid of that map... they cause problems sometimes and make pages much more complex than they should

- photoshop and again photoshop... make nice graphics for buttons etc and optimize them for web...

- macromedia flash comes last... first you gotta make its layout drawn in paper, see if you can make it work together and then move on to incorporating flash goodies...

3. use many HTML/WYSIWYG editors... Some things are done easier in DreamWeaver than they are with FrontPage and some others are better to do in FrontPage... Sometimes, I find my self using FrontPage, DreamWeaver, Notepad (my fav!) all together to make something work!

4. dont start from deep... sketch out a simple design at first and then start adding features onto it... think of smart things and goodies such as javascripts and such which could make the looks and feel of the site better... i.e would some info about date help your visitors? if yes, think of a spot to put a datestamp

5. get feedback from your visitors... its prolly the only way to learn more about their needs and what needs to be changed in site design etc...

6. always put functionality your first priotity... what good is eye-candy design when visitors cant use it?

might come up with more soon!
