New XCM adaptor will allow to use a PS3 controller on the Xbox 360

Recommended Posts

XCMLive has just informed us of a new product that should be available towards the end of February. The cross fire converter is an adaptor which will allow you to use a PS3 controller on the Xbox 360, more functions will be announced at a later date.

Yeah yeah, I'm sure this topic is going to get ugly, but I'm just reporting that they're expanding their adaptor range [Already have 360 to PS3 - http://www.xcm.cc/xcm_cross_battle_adapter.htm and reviewed here by DL - https://www.neowin.net/news/gamers/09/01/14...-adapter-review].

To try and offer a neutral view before the hounds are released, it could be useful for d-pad heavy games like SF4.

The fact this is coming out and is going to work, makes me think they should release an all in one solution for 360-PS3 and PS3-360 in one box.

There's no market for it though :p

In all seriousness, I do know there are plenty of people that like the PS3 controller over the 360 one, and for this it'll probably be a blessing. I'd much rather stick with the 360 controller though.

And let me be the first to add some negativity, I'd rather snog a bear trap

QFT

Even if I wanted a better d-pad I'd sooner buy the green PES X360 controller (Y)

DS3 has zero benefits over the 360 controller.

Meh. I prefer using the d-pad on a lot of games (fighting, driving and even football games) and the d-pad is much better on the DS3 so that's why i prefer it.

However, i wouldn't buy this.

But really I think they should make it at limited edition, you know only make 5... ok maybe 6 (Audioboxer might buy 2).

Nah, waste of money for me these devices - Their cons reduce functionality also.

I'm impartial to all the controllers I own, can use them all fine. Sometimes I think the "360 triggers would be better here, or the PS3 d-pad would be better here, or even wii motion controls ftw :p", but I have no real difficulties playing anything on any controller. I have mad skillz.

On the notion of cons, I wonder if XCM finally have these devices working wirelessly? As the PS3 charge cable is very short, not long enough for using for gaming unless your PS3 is right next to you.

It's funny how people always used to call the PS2 controller the best controller out there. The PS3 controller is basically the same as that!

It's not just become automatically crap. It's just not as good as the Xbox 360 controller. :p

Yes, they do become crap when a new king enters the market and a new standard is set.

Is it though, really? I mean, c'mon look at these beauties:

The withered and crooked old hands of gaming have spoken.

So you just dug out huge controllers and thinking that's what I mean by standard?

The 360 controller introduced great design, perfect grip, curved triggers and perfect weight ( Imo ) - None of which the PS3 controller sports as standard. Even the US army adopted the 360 controller in no time which is definitely a sign of how good the controller is.

Err okay, humour bypass. ;)

The US army using the Xbox 360 controller proves it has proper Windows drivers, that's about it.

I doubt they picked it based on the placebo that the analogue stick placement somehow makes it better for first person shooters. :p

Err okay, humour non-existent in the first place ;)

And what does first person shooters have to do with anything, do you even know what they are using it for? The 360 controller is durable and sports a great design, size and weight.

Are those actually available?

No, they picked it because it is the better controller.

The only issue I had with the DS3 was the triggers, but now that's sorted with those clip on things, it's fine.

People act as though it's somehow changed into a plank of wood. It has been bettered no doubt, but it's not that ****ing bad.

That Jaguar pad always puts a smile on my face tbh.

Yeah, they're used to control remote vehicles, and I didn't disagree it's a great controller either (and yes, arguably the standard). But the US army using doesn't really mean anything (in the context of this thread). They wern't likely to chose the DS3 with it's community hacked Windows drivers and 2 inch long USB lead now were they.

FTR, I was never one to call the PS2 controllers the best :p

I have never liked the joystick positioning of the Playstation controllers. I'd much rather use an N64 controller than one of those.

Yes, the Jaguar pad is a smile worth but the two others were excellent controllers in my opinion and deserves no place in the butt end of a joke.

No they weren't likely to chose the DS3 ( Probably just Sixaxis, since they acquired controllers pre-DS3. ) because it lacks features and support, another nail in the coffin for the controller. This should just be seen as another plus in the book for the 360 controller, plus I'd bet you anything, if both of them had a proper wired version and sported Windows drivers they would still have gone for the 360 controller ( See my previous points ) but that's just pure speculations.

And I do agree DARKFiB3R, it's not like the PS3 controller suddenly turned into a useless brick but the 360 controller raised the bar tenfold and showed us it's possible with an all-round excellent package, the PS3 controller is just feels like a cheap, flimsy controller that hasn't evolved at all ... It actually went a step back with those downward curved R2/L2 buttons.

QFT, I've never liked the PS1/PS2 layouts, especially now that I'm older and my hands are bigger.

Analogue sticks in the centre = epic fail.

Well, the "Duke" gives me some pretty fond memories. Like playing Halo with my hands 3ft apart and nearly breaking my mates floorboards when I dropped the thing. I couldn't toss up between N64 and GameCube controllers to be honest, both felt like Chinese hand torture to me.

I don't think the lack of Windows drivers is a "nail in the coffin" for the DS3. Microsoft had every reason to implement PC support given the whole Games for Windows initiative. Sony on the other hand didn't, they were too busy lying that rumble wasn't a crucial feature in a next gen controller. ;)

I'm sure the US army would have chosen the 360 pad over the DS3 had their been a choice. I just dislike the suggestion that somehow the DS3 isn't ergonomically sound. Okay it's not perfect, they should have left the L2/R2 triggers alone and perhaps reverted to concave analogue sticks, but it's still a decent all round controller (at least in my eyes). There just happens to be a new kid in town that's raised the game.

On the topic of controllers my Analogue Caps are in the post and I'll put up some pictures and a review when they arrive these week. Yes, I'm aware this makes me look like a massive hypocrite, but in my defence I just like things that I can clip on my controller tbh. :p

You would have loved my N64 dildo idea then, I really should have taken that further. :p

For me; the PS3 controller D-pad is much better for fighting games then the 360 D-Pad. So far the PS3 has been my platform for fighting games because of this. If I can use it on the 360, that would be cool for me.
