Dashboard Update (aka the HDMI Audio fix)

Recommended Posts

Starting Tuesday morning at 0200 Pacific when you sign into Xbox Live you?ll be prompted for a mandatory dashboard update. The update addresses the issue that a few folks were having with audio and their HDMI connection.

This update will be rolled out to all Xbox LIVE members around the world over the space of a few hours, so you may not get prompted for the update immediately. Thanks for your patience.

Right now I have my 360 hooked up through component/optical to my Samsung LN32A550 but always wished I could go HDMI to simplify things. I know HDMI carries the sound too, but does it carry the exact same quality as optical?

128MB for only an HDMI fix? Doubt that.

Anyone know where I can get a 20-60GB at a cheap price? My memcard is getting bloated.

Hmmm, maybe if you've nevr had a HDD and have an Arcade then the MSD promotion might still be on where you get a cheap refurbished 20GB HDD, check that first.

If not there, check the Official UK Deals thread here, or www.hotukdeals.co.uk for the best prices.

Alternatively... eBay?

Well... I got it. Dashboard 2.0.7363.0.

The same mysterious version which was released to a select bunch of users a few weeks ago.

Hopefully it doesn't have the same hard drive locking issue :p

I hope this fixes the problem I'm having with my HDMI switch.

Basically, if I turn on the XBOX 360 while on HDMI switch one (notebook), and change to HDMI switch two (XBOX 360), the audio goes missing. I have to restart/turn on the XBOX 360 while on HDMI switch two to get the audio to come through. It becomes a pain in the rear. Maybe this'll get it sorted out.

Hmm I got this at about 9pm last night, and *now* my Xbox is having issues with HDMI (picture is juddering, amp constantly switches between detecting Stereo and detecting Surround).

Thanks MS (Y). Is there a way to revert the update? Or is my console going to have to go back in for repair?

Yeah I'm having a few issues now, when I had zero before.

My amp keeps randomly muting itself and reverting to TV audio. Doesn't do it often, maybe once when the 360 comes on, and once when a game starts...

It's strange. No picture issues I don't think, just the amp muting itself. I can fix it by turning it off/on again.

[setup is 360 - HDMI - AMP - HDMI - TV]

Nope you can't uninstall an update, you'll either need to contact MS for a repair (tbh it would probably just be another console with the same fw) or you can wait for another dash update.

really? I seem to be getting only stereo over HDMI, when I get DolbyDigital over opical cable... am I doing something wrong?

Check the sound options, HDMI can carry all the same stuff Optical does (and more - but the 360 isn't capable of outputting TrueHD or anything so it's just the same as optical). I get 5.1 with my HDMI.

I'd like to use HDMI but the only port on my TV is being taken up by my surround sound system, so VGA will have to do...

Can't you feed the 360 into that sound system? That's what I do.

The problem I had with my HDMI audio was that it would stop working while playing any game. Taking the cable out and putting it back in seemed to fix it. Of course this used to happen even before the NXE and has only happened a few times, so I don't really know if it was fixed or not.
