Calum Veteran Posted February 4, 2009 Veteran Share Posted February 4, 2009 Hi :) Is there a way to have an email subscription (or any subscription) of replies to news stories which we comment on, just like we are able to in the forums? This would be very convenient as I currently do not know when somebody has replied. I am normally very good at figuring out how to use things and finding options, so sorry if there is an option already there, but for some reason I just can't find it. Thank you in advance. kinetix63 Veteran Posted February 4, 2009 Veteran Share Posted February 4, 2009 At the moment, I don't think there is, but it's not a half bad suggestion :) We'll see what a developer says.
Calum Veteran Posted February 18, 2009 Author Veteran Share Posted February 18, 2009 (edited) Thanks kinetix63 :) Do you know if a Developer has seen this yet? I really do think this would be a very useful feature for both readers/commenters of the news and for moderators (as new comments could be sent directly to their email address, allowing for instant notification/viewing - this would mean quicker moderation). I always have my desktop email software (Windows Live Mail) open whenever I am at my computer. Currently I have subscriptions to some forums and threads - this is why I am able to view replies so quickly and reply to certain people so quickly. I would love it if news comments worked the same way. I understand this is a built-in InvisionPowerBoard feature (for the forums), but with my limited PHP knowledge, it seems like it would be feasible if the Developers agree. Rob Veteran Posted February 18, 2009 Veteran Share Posted February 18, 2009 We've seen the thread - and yes, the feature is something we'll look into the feasibility of introducing into future revisions of our news script.
Calum Veteran Posted February 18, 2009 Author Veteran Share Posted February 18, 2009 Thanks for the information, Rob :) It's great to know you will look into this. I hope to see it implemented at some point as it would make participating in news stories much easier :)
Chris-Gonzales
I like to point out, there should be a link/button right bellow the article next to the Share this Article/ About the Author/ Related news box to quickly enable/disable the notfications with out the need to go in to a whole other page. Calum Veteran Posted March 9, 2009 Author Veteran Share Posted March 9, 2009 I like to point out, there should be a link/button right bellow the article next to the Share this Article/ About the Author/ Related news box to quickly enable/disable the notfications with out the need to go in to a whole other page. That would be nice, if this feature is implemented. However, if it is implemented, it may be like the forum's feature of a similar nature and may need to be configured by the user (immediate notification, daily notification, etc). So whilst subscribing without going to another page would be ideal, it isn't that important. I'd just like the feature no matter how it is implemented :p
Gamerhomie
Yeah, you commented back in January in my topic about the same question, it's really the only thing I see missing right now that would be really helpful for a lot of people.
Calum Veteran Posted March 9, 2009 Author Veteran Share Posted March 9, 2009 Yeah, you commented back in January in my topic about the same question I did? Do you have a link please? I can't find it :)
Gamerhomie
I did? :huh:Do you have a link please? I can't find it :) Yeah, now that I look at it, I chose a pretty badly worded title. Probably why I didn't get many responses. https://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?show...=726522&hl=
