Hey everyone,

Heard from a mate that a few people here maybe interested in larping in Brisbane.

The Brisbane Larping Society is a new community for people in Brisbane who are interested in live action role-playing. We have created and developed our own larp game which we use at our weekly events.

If your interested in seeing what it is like and/or giving it a go then head to our website and check it out.

Firstly it is Brisbane in Australia, sorry for not clarifying that...

As for the lightning bolt vid link... Yeah, that is a perfect example of a larp that has become completely and utterly fail thanks to magic being implemented in a world where there is no real magic...

I designed my larp in a way so that magic is still involved but it is in nowhere near as retarded as that sort of stuff....

I realize it is different and weird and all that... and yeah I expected people to just lol..... But when it comes down to it I really don't care what anything thinks about it, I'm doing it because the games industry has gone to ****. It is all about the money now, nobody is developing games that are decent anymore... It has just become about spewing out as many of the generic, shiny games where the focus isn't on making a good game but instead on making it look better.

I'm bored, I'm bored of the same terrible games coming out and there is nothing even remotely appealing in the near future for games. Because of that I'm trying something different, I don't see what's so bad about that.

Look I realize there are a lot of skeptics out there, all I'm saying it just give it a shot! What do you really have to lose?

  • 8 months later...

If I could afford it, I'd be LARPing, or at least give it a go.

For costumes etc, what sort of price is generally looked at? Obviously it varies, if you could give a range or something?

Wait.. there are people who haven't heard of LARPing?!

Anyway I tried once it while at uni - not my cup of tea really. I thought it would be 'CTF but with plastic swords', instead it was essentially an audience-less outdoors play with a loose script and rather bad acting. CTF with swords would be much more fun! ;)

and I just check - there is a Brisbane, California! However population: 3,597. So why an Aussie might assume it could be Brissy, USA is beyond me! :p

I use to LARP with various groups- Amtgard, Sword Tag, etc.

Then I found a truly manly group: SCA. If you think LARPing is

only for sissies, get on the field and I'll show you different.
