King Antonius
Downloaded it today, took about 25mins. I find the Cov to be WAY over powered. Playing against a hard enemy, they can't even destroy one lone scarab when it has no back-up. I also found the super weapon on the covenant is way too powerful. The humans, can callin a maximum of 4 strikes from a ship in space at the same time. The covenant, have a big beam, where you control it's direction, that just keeps on going, it doesn't stop until the prophet is killed or the user decides to stop. I love it, but overall, finding it a bit easy, not sure if that has anything to do with the fact im used to Red Alert 3 difficulty levels.

The cov beam only works as long as you have supplies available. It goes through supplies as you use it. I thought it was rather easy too.
Remysaus
i love the demo, though I'm still in doubt if i should get it. i got C&C3 for 360 some time ago and never finished the 3rd mission, i'm afraid it will be the same with halo wars. though it is a lot better and enjoyable than C&C3, i just wonder for how long it will keep me interested, a big part of the appeal right now is recognizing the units and sounds, when that's over it is "just a rts". what
I liked it more than I expected to, but I echo the sentiments of the people saying it's too easy, and that the Covenant are overpowered. I can see multiplayer matches just being a rushfest with the Covenant spamming the beam.
Matrix XII
I haven't played it yet, but I have a feeling that it's not going to be as good as we think :(
+Mystic MVC Posted February 7, 2009 MVC Share Posted February 7, 2009 Played it today and had a pretty good time. You keep thinking it will have that stigma of horrible RTS failure on consoles, but it doesn't. The CGI is pretty great and I didn't expect it because I was coming from that Halo 3 mindset. The only troubles I really ran into was a little lag when panning too fast across the map. I don't really think I have the right to review the full game yet or the unit balances etc because I've only played the two demo stages and one skirmish level. Overall though, I have to say I'm not suprised by this game (in a good way). I expected Ensemble to take their time and put out a quality product and they did just that. I wasn't necessarily expecting the great cinematics which was a plus. Can't wait to see the final product!
Remysaus
also, your unit's AI isn't great, had a warthog get stuck a couple of times and you can forget about moving a scorpion tank outside a group of infantry, it just keeps turning to find a way out, but there isn't. they could've at least made the infantry move away a little for it to pass for example.. The Teej
I really enjoyed this demo! I accidentally skipped the tutorial, and still found it really easy and comfortable to use. Considering the only RTS stuff I've played is like 4 hours of Starcraft (outside of Pikmin), this is a testament to how intuitive the mechanics are. It's great stuff. I may end up getting the full game when it comes out.

I might just pick this game up when it's released.
Neo003
^ true that, I never like RTS games. To me it's too much work but considering that I played halo series in FPS I'm really liking this one. But I know that I wouldn't be playing too many RTS just cause this one is really good.
djweasel
Played the Demo for 5min thought it was a horrible game. I believe in my opinion this game ruined how Halo is played. I will not buy this I don't get how this can come with 3 of the Mythic maps since this game isn't 1st person?

ozgeek
I despises RTS games so much but I think Halo Wars is good. Just too much action for me and I am a slow adapter. The problem is why can't I really zoom? I can't see what is what and can't tell elite from marine. I'd like it to zoom all the way in so much I should be able to see the field from the ground level and see each marine up close.
Neo003
I think it's the right or the left stick, just push it up and down to zoom in. If you're taking about first person view then you might as well just stick with halo. But being myself a first timer, I found the game really great and really easy to master. Guyro
i found normal too easy and heroic too hard, hopefully they either change them or put a new difficulty in the middle ive been told that we will have to wait for dlc before we can play as the flood, does anyone know for sure?
HawkMan
Personally I would have liked the flood to not ever exist, but, that's not going to happen :p
Remysaus
technically the flood couldn't be part of the storyline, since they are just discovered by the covenant and humans on the first halo ring, which takes place about 20 years after halo wars' storyline.. Guyro
so why are the flood in the game then? apart from (hopefully) giving us another team to play as
mail
I'd like it to zoom all the way in so much I should be able to see the field from the ground level and see each marine up close. Graphics aren't good enough for them to allow that.
HawkMan
I wasn't aware the flood was in the game. and honestly we can do without a zerg rush team. leave the rushers to StarCraft.
Green_Eye
I was very very skeptical, I would have never thought this would work out as generally RTS on consoles do not. However having played the demo this is now a day one purchase for me. Absolutely loved it (Y) everything felt right and as said above the cut scenes were amazing and are a big plus

gamerboy
I have my doubt about them implementing the flood. They don't really have any vehicles that they could use to balance with the cov and marines.
