Rare?s told VG247 that the Xbox community ?may? receive features allowing them to create their own Avatar kit, saying that user-generation was simply too big a deal to force into NXE?s launch last year.

?User-generated content is a huge area that would not have been done any justice if we had tried to cram it into the launch release of this project,? said Avatars designer, Dale Murchie.

?There may be features coming that open up the expressive potential of the Xbox community, but we?re keeping quiet on that for now.?

Head of art Lee Musgrave added: ?Creativity is going to play a big part in the development of the Avatars.?

Currently, users? Avatars can only be kitted out with supplied items, of which several packs have been released since launch.

Avatars became an integral part of Xbox 360 last year with the release of New XbSource: VG247]Source: VG247[/url]

I do hope so, however I'd never pay for that option. I still think some deals should be made to bring official clothing into the avatar modification system :p

What about the issues with people making inappropriate content? That's why only friends can customer gamerpics taken with the XBL Vision camera.

Perhaps you make a design, submit it, and if it's approved everybody gets to use it.

I can't see that being a problem really, with a Vision Cam you can take pictures of anything you want and use it as your gamerpic.

With an Avatar Kit I guess you'd be given a set number of tools for use, there's only so much that you could do.

Like the logos you can make on halo 3, everyone knows you can make something that looks remotely like a penis but most people don't, and it's not a graphic realistic image.

Yup, I spoke about this in the avatars topic in the PS3 section.

Moderating such a large number of people [millions compared to thousands on a messageboard scenario] in regards to custom avatars will take a fair share of resources and time. It's not that it's impossible to do, it's just another consideration when you open up your network to potential abuse.

I mean, you'd probably get people reporting others for having PS related avatars on Live, and vice-versa if the PS3 had custom avatars. It's not just about inappropriate content, it's abuse of any warning system that would have to be put in place as well.

Of course the above is largely limited to the ability to import custom image files [such as JPG] - If by custom avatars its say a "paint" based system on the 360 OS, like having MSPaint on your 360 abuse will be less "harsh". Of course, people can still draw wangs, but it's less graphic than seeing a real wang as an avatar. The effort involved in having to actually create, rather than just import something, will probably put people off as well.

One would think with their account at stake people would be less idiotic, but you're bound to find some people challenging boundaries with content.
