bob_c_b
Loved Halo CE, hated Halo 2, enjoyed Halo 3. It's over-rated, but as someone else mentioned, they are generally very polished and complete games and have a decent story arc (even if a bit cliche'). Some games make me think, some games make me laugh, so games are just games.
Iian K
I was fairly satisfied with the Halo series, I'm a sucker for First Person Shooters, and Sci-Fi. :p
PricklyPoo
Been playing Halo since the first day it was out. Well it was my first game when I bought the xbox. :p I always thought it was a good game, but there are still better games out there. Now it just seems like a game followed by fanboys who haven't played any other good games and buy anything with the Halo logo slapped on it. *Cough Halo Wars*
Ayepecks
FEAR has good AI, but it anything but fantastic, FEAR 2 does have fantastic AI though. Halo CE, for its time, had magnificient AI. It was the first shooter, and still one of the only shooters besides Fear and HL2, where the enemy not only dodged when you did specific things but kept distance, affected other units, etc. The teamwork mentality was already built into the game (kill an elite, grunts go crazy due to losing the leader and strong point of their unit). In response to the OP, I think Halo just has a specific character that I have grown to love. Already being a sci-fi buff (my favorite sci-fi now has to be Sunshine, best one yet), Halo grabbed me in with just that at first. Then I really dug into the story and found the universe to be extremely detailed and expansive. I would also recommend reading the books and at least finishing the games (If you only got 2/3 through Halo CE, that last third is actually very critical to the game's overall story). And try playing through Halo 2's campaign at least once for story reasons so Halo 3 makes sense a bit. Other than it really comes down to just what you enjoy playing. I personally hate HL2 for its obscenely slow story progression, crappy puzzle/shooter mix strategy and horribly overhyped AI mechanics. Thats not to say I was never intrigued by the story, which is the main reason I picked it up in the first place, but in the end the game just really wasn't my cup of tea. You might be in the same situation here. I'm so lost... you think Half-Life 2 has better A.I. than F.E.A.R. or Halo? And that Halo has better A.I. than F.E.A.R.? I have to disagree on both accounts. The first Half-Life (even though I didn't care for it -- and yes, I know I'm in the minority) had excellent A.I. Half-Life 2... not so much. F.E.A.R. was universally praised for it's A.I. as well. DR3AMxCATCHER
LOL@ Enemy AI, I remember shooting through gimp grunts and midget ones as they stood in line of sight staring like idiots.FEAR has the BEST enemy AI I have ever encountered. Half life has best Sound Effects, and very good AI. Halo is just hype and fanboys... MP though is fun, cuss it is/was the very first Xbox Ok F-P Halo does have hype and does have fanboys but, tell me what game doesn't? This really compare to FEAR and Half-Life IMO...just me though. There's a storyline? Obviously you don't belong in this thread.
+jamesyfx Subscriber² Posted February 6, 2009 Author Subscriber² Share Posted February 6, 2009 I liked Half-Life 2 - probably because of the gravity gun though! I didn't care much for the storyline or anything.
Berserk87
i read the novels before i played the game, and i loved the game when it came out. i like halo so much because of the multiplayer and game types. and reading the story just makes the game that much funner. I said I hate HL2 and that it had way overhyped AI mechanics that ended up all being scripted events. There was no praise for it at all. And I never compared the AI to one another either. FEAR has great AI, but I personally think that it needed a bit more work since the AI was making mistakes constantly since it was so complex. The FEAR 2 AI on the other hand seems far more complete IMO. For Halo, all I said was it was the first game that really had dynamic AI mechanics, like awareness of other AI in the room. That was amazing for its time.
Matrix XII
These threads pop up once in a while lol Not everyone likes the same games, that's for sure. I love Halo myself but if you didn't play them when they first came out then they may seem stale or dated. Halo 1 was a revolutionary shooter and did things that many other previous shooters hadn't. It also had some of the best split-screen multiplayer known in the early 2000's.

Behemoth
I agree with the OP - not sure what the fuss is about, but to each their own. I can see how people would like it, especially on the console. Not too many good FPS competitors out there that have the MP of Halo on the console. More of UT2004 man myself on the PC when it comes to FPS and MP.

Neo003
First I didn't liked halo either it was running crappy like a slide show (wait, it was my computer). After I got the first decent computer the game was beautiful, I nearly played single player 20+ time.
kylejn
Nobody's forcing you to like the game. I happen to love all three of them and had more fun than I thought I would playing the Halo Wars demo. I've read all the books, though, so maybe that's what's making me more invested in the storyline?
