Xbox repair

Anyone have any suggestion on how to get a free repair if my console is out of warranty? It is 1 month out of warranty and the hardware failed on it so it doesn't work. I spoke with 2 supervisors on the phone and both said that they could not waive the repair fee. Anyone have any suggestions?

well i had heard of people who got a repair for free if they complained enough/talked to a supervisor so i didn't know anyone had done that before and actually got it free.

If you're in the UK and think you know your way around the Sale of Goods act well enough, you can attempt to force them to repair it for free if you can prove that the product was inherently faulty. You have this right for up to 6 years in the UK, however, sometimes it's not worth the potential legal battle you may face (some companies, however, just roll over as soon as you mention it to avoid any publicity (to them, a free ?60 repair is better than the time wasted on a small legal battle)).

I've never heard of such stories here at NW like that. Maybe back in 2006 when MS were still not "accepting" the faults as wide scale, and stories of people who send modded consoles and have them repaired anyway.

As its out of warranty though, they don't need to repair it for free. You can keep trying over the phone with them, but I doubt you'll get anywhere.

My advice would be just to buy a Jasper Arcade.

@Bmaher, MS have had the legal threats thrown at them god knows how many times this generation, I seriously doubt they are worried about it. They have deep enough pockets to take anyone on.

well they offered me a free vision camera over the phone which would make the price the same as if i did it online. Is the 1 red light error fixable or would I get a new console?

Ok there is a number of things it could be.

1: The AV cable is loose

2: The AV cable is faulty

3: The H/ANA chip is faulty (I don't think its possible to fix with a home kit)

4: The GPU is screwed and you need to do the X-clamp fix. (there is all kinds of guides all over the net for this and a kit available)

Seeing as you're out of warranty you can either risk trying to fix it yourself or keep asking MS to fix it for free (or pay for a repair).

I'm really not certain on that, I think its pot luck.

Some people here have received the same console back each time their 360 was repaired, others have been sent a refurb each time.

Yeah, but sometimes its just simpler for them to do it - after all, even if you have that much money, would you rather spend ?20 repairing a console, or would you rather spend hundreds in both time and money replying to letters, organising somebody to be at the case etc - it makes better business sense to go for the cheaper option.

You'll be surprised at just how often companies back down.
