Epic Considering new ranking system in GOW2

Actually it's not that simple, trueskill is as I said, a lot more than time played, kd ratio or win loss ratio.

You can play for ages and never "level" up in trueskill, ince it's not a level, it's an indication of "your" skill, and behind the scenes it's a lot more than a single number.

and in fact trueskill will lower your number if you're not good enough, if you where able to see the full number, (like what is behind the invisible comma after your ts rank) or the complex hidden formula behind the number, you'd see the number going up and down after every match you do in minor or larger increments depending on the "skill" you've shown during that game.

yeah, sure theoretically, you should be increasing in skill the longer you play, except not all people are that good learner and some just never get past being crap or being merely decent or good. It takes more than just playing the game 8 hours a day for 6 months to get a high trueskill, you need to actually be good as well.

I can tell you right now that a person who goes and plays 10 games total and wins 7 of them will have a lowered rank that a person for goes and plays 100 and wins 50. So tell me how trueskill says who is better because even tho the person who only played 10 games has a better win loss ratio, the person that plays more will obvious have a higher rank.

why? why would the person that plays more have a higher rank, well actually he may have a higher rank, by the CoD RPG level system, But that doesn't mean he is a better player. CoD style levels rank players by playtime, trueSkill as the name would imply, rank players by SKILL. it's also not about win loss ratio, a good player can still lose to a less good players.

Also trueskill would need more than 10 games to properly rank you, even though it supposedly can properly rank a player in less than 20 games, which can mean anything. it pretty much depends on how you play, how fast trueskill will be able to determine your skill.

I also believe all ranked live games are required to use trueskill to match gamers, in order to make balanced or as close to balanced as possible teams.

honestly how can you think a game with all players of captain rank, who have played the exact same hours, but where one team is all crappy players with zero skill, who have just played long enough and been lucky long enough, is better, than a match between people with different ranks and playtime, but with the same skill, resulting in a balanced game where the outcome is uncertain and there actually a challenge ?

I would say to correctly rank someone you would need a lot of games in order to gain a "true" rank. Over 100 is probably an understatement because until you get to playing people your own skill it really doesn't work. So in order to get these 100 games in it will take a person quite awhile to play them anyway. So once again it really doesn't matter which system you use you level depending on how much you play.

You apparently haven't played GOW2 online at all then. We get to see Trueskill at its finest on there.

Actually a system like trueskill which analyzes how you play every action you take during the game and how you do it can place your rank in it's ranking list fairly easy, it doesn't require hundreds of games to see this.

And epic in that article allready admitted they aren't using trueskill correctly, partly because team performance is used to instead of individual perfomance, wich is wrong since trueskill is about the individual performance, for then to put together a good team.

Try Shadowrun for a game that uses trueskill at it's best, or ranked halo matches they uses trueskill behind the scenes as well. ut Halo technically uses ranks first then trueskill to get equals skill among the equal(ish) ranks).

I think that is probably the biggest lie I've ever seen. I see me getting put with two bars who are trash versus all kinds of 3 and 4 bars.
