Sigh... Tomb Raider Underworld DLC delayed...

Recommended Posts

supposedly due to techincal issues. . I hope Eidos keeps Crystal Dynamics intact (or sells them off as a completel unit), they did such a great job rebooting the Tomb Raider series I just want more. With all the good review TRU got it's a shame more people didn't play it, but with it's spiffy new $10 price drop maybe it will pick up some more sales.

Oh well, we'll get the DLC eventually.

Seems like a lot of content is getting delayed recently.:((

Yes, hopefully just companies hedging their bets against the economy, too few dollars chasing too many downloads and all that. I woudln't release DLC right around a major player like GTA4, even for a few weeks around there.

sorry to be negative, but the DLC isn't the only thing missing for this game. also the fun, the control scheme, save system and the impetus to keep playing. I wanted to love this one and did parts of it, the story is good, Lara looks awesome and the levels are quite interesting overall, but at the end of the day this was a huge dud.

Wow, we must have gotten two different games as the control scheme was pretty much like TRL and TRA, as was the save system. The new camera system wasn't perfect but beyond that I don't see anything that would classify this game as a huge dud? By your own words the story is good, the game looks awesome and the levels are quite interesting. I'm not saying the game is a 10/10, but it's hardly the failure you are tyring to make it out as.

Glad this got delayed, money pinching devs trying to resell us the content THEY cut from the retail game just to make a deadline.

Yeah yeah, they "bulked" it up a bit, but they're still selling content that was planned to be in the game. Release that for free at least.

Not sure why delaying it will somehow make it free, but okay.

Try reading more than the last sentence of his post.

Try basic comprehension, I dind't question his reasoning why just the idea that somehow delaying the DLC will magically make it free.

/facepalm

It's nothing to do with the delay making it free, I'm happy it got delayed out of spite for the fact they are charging for content we "should" have had.

Jeebus, I'll spell everything out for you guys. I don't disagee with what you are saying, but it isn't going to be free just because it is delayed. So the only people you are spiting are those who want the content anyway. This is hardly the first game where some content was left out to sell to us later.

WE KNOW THAT NONE OF US SAID IT WOULD BE.

You're the one that brought the "delay = free DLC?" argument up. All I said was IMO the parts that were axed from the retail game should of came for free, and I was "happy" the DLC got delayed out of spite for the penny pinching. And I'm not spiting anyone wanting the content, do what you want with your money, I'm spiting the developers for what is a shoddy move IMO - And I know they aren't the only ones to do this, but this topics about Tomb Raider, not any other title/dev.

Anyway, here's hoping whatever they've buffed up the "cut from retail content" with, actually adds a decent amount of content to the game.

Ahh, so the delay punishes Eidos and not the fans waiting for the content? Okay, if you say so. I'm sure Eidos can wait a few more weeks for a few thousand dollars, so if I were off just being spiteful toward any assorted target, I might spend that energy on something more meaningful.

bob, chillax a bit, Audio isn't saying anything like what you seem to be reading into it.

as to my comments, maybe we did get two different games! i found the controls cumbersome at best - many jumps failed because of the collision detection, Lara seemed to face the wrong way much of the time, not to mention the clipping. the save system was awkward. you could seemingly save anywhere, but it only really saved at the presets. and checkpoints didn't mean save points. for example, the scene in Mexico in the great hall, the one where you have to move the old seats around and collect those four inserts...i thought every time the checkpoint sound came on, it meant i was safe and could save and exit. no such luck. even dying meant you hade to go back a ways, and this is one tough game - at least for me.

backtracking one time too many made me give this away to a friend - like i always say, life has enough hardship without our hobbies adding to the mix!

glad you enjoyed it, it had many redeeming features, but i'd give it a 5/10.

A little off topic, but I like that you are reviewing a game Neo, in a topic about DLC. But you bit Sethos' head off the other week for reviewing Quantum of Solace in your multiplayer topic.

Double standards much? :p

I did not experience this at all, but that would be frustrating. In fact in the throne room i died a few times trying stuff I expected would fail, even committing suicide a few times to see what the death animations were like.

exactly bob - it was just too much to ask for on their part. i reiterate my puzzlement at why developers can't just give us save-anywhere. it's a cheap trick to extend game time, if you ask me.

and no double standards munky, although i was just thinking that you'll be adding a comment such as you did. read my post - it's respectful both to other posters and to the game. first, i did have much in the way of positives to say about the title, second, the negatives were moderated and simply put. not "the graphics suck! the levels look like they were designed by a four year old!" or whatever your fellow European had to say.

I actually think it's more about saving/controlling space usage for save games, check points are small and typically load/unload quickly. Some engines seem to deal with "save anywhere" far better than others, The Withcer comes to mind with corrupted saves being far to common and performance issues crop up whenever I have more than 3 saves. But of course YMMV.

your explanation works from a technical perspective, but i doubt it's such a big deal for them. i keep thinking Fable 2 and Mass Effect, two examples off the top of my so called head, both had easy saving at will (more or less for Fable 2 - only one slot). i don't think in this day and age a 5MB savefile is a problem.

i hope the next Tomb Raider title will be more gratifying. This one had some stuff going for it, they can get it right next time. Personally i'd pass on any DLC for Underworld and hold off till the follow up title comes along.

Oh yea, I agree that it is a limitation that should not exist any longer, old habits die hard and all of that. Save anywhere should be a no brainer, completely agree with you there.

That said, I'm a sucker for the revitalized TR series since CD took over so I'll bite, good value or not, I'm a fan if it gets even close to the mark, and it goes close to the mark for me.

I don't really care in the end, just my observation lol.

I disagree entirely with your opinion on the game though, but I've been over it already too much with other members in the official topic we had for the game.

bob, i'm sure the next full release will be stronger - as much as i resent Eidos for the Jeff G incident, i still wish them well and hope they remain an independent publisher.

munky, that's fine. i never jumped on him for having an opinion, just for being so toxic about it.

So is this DLC 360 exclusive I take it? I'm not too bothered if it is though (have the PC version).

We do seem to be getting a few delays on things though; got the GRID DLC for PC which has fallen off the map (which Codemasters said we would get), the "big" patch for NFSU has gone into limbo and the FarCry 2 DLC for PC (which I think got canned for PC and made console exclusive in the end?). Ah well, could be worse!
