LTD
Apple has announced that you can now use your MobileMe iDisk to share files with others simply and easily. Instead of attaching a large document to an email and hoping it's not too big to be received, you can place the file in your iDisk and use the new Share File command in the iDisk web app. It lets you send your friends, family, or colleagues a link they can click to download the file directly. You can password protect the link if you choose to and even set how long it will be available. The process is a simple matter of going to iDisk on me.com, selecting the file you want to share, and clicking the Share File button. (.Mac and MobileMe subscribers have always been able to share files stored on iDisk by simply putting those files in the Public folder and sending a link to the intended recipient. Apple's new iDisk sharing feature may make the process easier, which is great, but it's not like you couldn't do this before. But this time the implementation seems much better.) Watch this tutorial to see how easy it is: http://www.apple.com/mobileme/tutorials/#idisk-share
thefarewellnote
Correct me if I am wrong but the functionality has been added to the Finder yet correct? Only through the web based site? Would this also mean that I could upload a screenshot to MobileMe and create a publiclink and post that link in a screenshot thread? I sure hope so - then DropBox could go away!! StandingInAlley
^ I don't think they impose limits of b/w which Apple does. 200gig of b/w per month
LTD
Skydrive much? Nope, not much. Skydrive was released August 2007. iDisk has had these features since before 2002. Easy to use, Just drop a file into your Public folder and then send the link(s) to whoever. MobileMe just improved the implementation.

Sam Symons Veteran Posted February 13, 2009 Veteran Share Posted February 13, 2009 Live Mesh is great, I agree, but MobileMe costs as it does a whole lot more, even website hosting :)

AltecXP
Hasn't MS had "network folders" for MSN.com email holders for years that do this well before 2002? I'm not sure on the Public folder access part of it but they definitely had the ability to store files online.
Steeley
Would this also mean that I could upload a screenshot to MobileMe and create a publiclink and post that link in a screenshot thread? I sure hope so - then DropBox could go away!! Rehashing a very old thread, but for this little gem I don't think it's worth creating another one. This thread came up when I did a forum search. This is how you get iDisk to work like Dropbox in sharing a direct public image link:- 1. Copy the file into the iDisk public folder. It won't work in any other iDisk folder. 2. Make a note of the filename, e.g. abc123.jpg 3. Go to the location you want to host your image (i.e. where you want to share it, such as in a thread at Neowin). 4. For the image link type: http://public.me.com/username/filename?disposition=download For example, if your mobileme login name was rufus and you wanted to share an image called abc123.jpg, your link would be:- http://public.me.com/rufus/abc123.jpg?disposition=download And there you have it. Here's one I prepared earlier from my own iDisk public folder:
bob_c_b
Skydrive much? Does Skydrive still have it's 50mb file size cap? iDisk has no such cap.
