Burnout Paradise - confused

Recommended Posts

I just got Burnout Paradise off Ebay and am trying to play it. The menu system is extremely confusing.

After I downloaded that update it automatically changed my vehicle from a car to a bike...BUT I WANT A CAR!! How do I change from a bike back to the car.

What is the objective of this game? I am driving around and don't know what I should do with this game!

This is what happens when game developers don't caption their games!

Everything is explained right from the get-go through videos you can't even skip

Perhaps if you read in my sig and my first post you will see that I am hearing impaired and have trouble lip-reading. Many other games are not so bad in fact I love CoD series for the fact they enable captions by default. So BP does not have captions on their stupid videos and therefore I become very confused.

Goal of Burnout Paradise: Be the ultimare driver, collect the 80+ cars and the four bikes and get to 101%

To do so:

* Beat the 120 events in the game: you'll find the events at each crossroads, just drive over them to unlock them

- Race: Go from A to B against IA players and win the race

- Marked Man: Go from A to B and do not be taken out by IA black cars who want to send you to the grass

- Road Rage: Do the number of takedown of other cars in a limited time: you get 5 seconds bonus per car taken down

- Stunt Run: In a limited time, do the maximum of jump, flat spins, barrel rolls to beat the given points target.

- Burning Route: they are race specific to a car: you must go from A to B in a limited time.

You can see the Burning Route location for a given car on the mini-map: it's marked by a orange circle with a star in the center.

When you win a burning route, you unlock an improved version of the car, there is no burning route for imporved version of cars.

To start an event, stop at the traffic light near the crossroad, you will have the type of events in the lower-right corner of the screen.

For Marked Man, Race, Burning Route events, the B point is always one of the following

North: The country club

North East: Coastguard HQ

East: Waterfront plaza

South East: Wildcats baseball stadium

South: Naval Shipyard

South West: Lone Stallion Ranch

West: the Wind Farm

North-West: the Observatory

After each event, you'll get a mark on your license and after a few marks, your license will be upgraded. From time to time, at the end of an event, you will see a graphic

of a car you do not own: this is a car to be unlocked: it's somewhere driving in Paradise City, you have to take it down to own it. Once taken out, it's available at the junk yard. There is no preset location to find a car (at least I never figured it out), the best way is to go to the I-88 and wait for the other car to challenge you.

* Beat the time and showtime record for each of the 64 roads

For each road, there is a time record and a showtime record.

For time, it's simple, you just have to go from the beginning to the end of a given road and beat the time

For showtime, it's the crash mode: press Left Bumper and Right Bumper in the middle of the road to begin a crash and jump

into as much as possible cars and buses to beat the money target. Make your car jump by pressing A when it hits the ground

* Discover the city

- Find the gas stations, paint shops, parkings, junk yards and garages

- the super jumps: there are 50 long jumps to find: they are marked with blinking blue warning signs on the road

- the billboards: there are 120 burnout billboard to destroy

- the smashs: there are 400 fluorescent yellow smash gates: go thru them to discover secret passages: be careful that one entry of a secret passage can have several exits

To change cars, go to a junk car. You can change colors of the car at the junkyard or by driving thru paint shops.

Repair a car before being able to change its color by driving thru a repair garage

Going thru a gas station will refill your boost bar

There are 4 categories of cars:

* Stunt cars: green boost bar: you get boost by doing stunts, boost is always available

* Agression cars: red boost bar: you get boost by taking down opponents, boost is always available

* Speed cars: yellow boost bar: boost is available only when the bar is full, when you empty the boost bar in one go, you do a burnout and the boost is refilled, you can chain burnouts when driving on oncoming.

* No-boost: there are 2 cars you can only use in Online freeburn which do not have boost: the Nakamura Rai-Jin and the Hunter Olympus: the Rai-Jin is a fast sports car, the Olympus is a tank looking like a SUV.

To do a flat spin, go to a jump and make your car slide before taking the jump. To do a barrel jumo, find a jump with a shifted ramp, take the ramp with the tires on the elevated part of the ramp and the car will barrel roll. You can control the barrel roll with the left joystick: move the joystick in the direction of the spin to make it more roll, the opposite to stop spinning and statbilize. Don't land on the roof facing down and the tires facing up: that does not work well.

* Online Freeburn: Press right on the D-Pad: you can find online freeburns to play with other players. Freeburns are session with

- races,

- online stunt run: never played it

- online road rage: blue team must go to a point, red team must take them out

- online marked man: one players is the sheep, cannot see the other and does not have boost and must out run his opponents, the other are the wolves and must take the sheep out in limited time. The sheep gets one point if it out run the pack, two points if he takes out one wolf. The wolf who take the sheep out get one point. Nobody get anything if the sheep crash. Once a round is finished, a new sheep is chosen by the console and the chase begins again until everyone has been the sheep once.

The winner is the one who has the bigger score

- Challenges: there are 420 challenges to complete divided along the number of players in the freeburn session: 60 for 2 players, 60 for 3 players ... until 60 for 8 players

Out of the 60, 50 are normal, 10 are timed. The timed challenges are divided into two parts and both must be done in limited time.

The challenges are explained by a ticker at the bottom of the screen and consists in various things: use boost, get to a given point on the map, drive on oncoming for a given length or on a given road, do a barrel roll.

There are individual challenges where everyone must do the job and team challenges where the team must work towards a given goal: do 50 jumps, smash 16 billboard.

Don't let your imparing prevent you from enjoying the game: it's really a great game.

I'm deaf as well and games without captions p;ss me off so much especially if you need to hear the dialogue to be able to progress. Buying Doom 3 and finding that didn't have subtitles infuriated me!
