Goldeneye: Source Beta 3.0 Released

Recommended Posts

I always check up on this site, stored in my bookmarks to see how the site is going.

I noticed Beta 3 was recently released on the site, and actually looks incredible with a lot more stages to play.

The free HL2 modification looks great, check out this video:

It's decent, but not that great. At first glance I didn't think it used the Orange Box engine. Apparently, it does. I guess it's just one of those games that plays better than it looks.

impressive stuff - looks a lot like NightFire for pc (ea's "mod" for hl1 engine by gearbox) - but doesn't really feel like it has anything to do with 007 - lol

The game is a community remake of the original, and not ported by Rare

The game play is questionable, and not exactly my style of play. I would rather a firm gameplay like COD4, and the loose gameplay that Goldeneye:Source provides.

It looks fantastic, and I would want to try it out on a friends PC before getting it.

I thought a lot of the counter strike players here might like to see this

I'm a hardcore Counter-Strike player and a former "fan" of GoldenEye on the N64 and this game isn't getting me excited at all. I'll definitely give it a try, for old time's sake.

I was a major fan of the original (N64 version) but I'm not all that interested in this mod.....then again my gaming tastes have changed majorly since then....I use to be a fan of FPS (never liked CS though.....too much wait time in between rounds), with fast paced games (like UT and Natural Selection, where you respawn shortly after you die, and are back in the action within seconds of your respawn).......but there aren't many good fast paced FPS out right now (IMO) so I play more RPGs now instead of FPSs.

That being said, looks like it would be a good novelty game for those who still enjoy Goldeneye style games, but other than that I dont think it will be a major hit.

You guys realize this is a beta right? And was made for free on peoples free time. A very good effort in my eyes

For those of us who playing Goldeneye back when we were young, this is probably a bit of fun. I remember a few releases back it was really buggy and looks like they've worked on it a lot since then.

Personally I think they have done well to port it over. Problem is though its a dying community. One of those which grew big when it came out as in the initial hype. But over time it grew weak and is kinda dead now IMO.

Yeah I've never liked the look of this mod to be honest. I haven't played that but I can't honestly see how that even resembles GE's deathmatch anyway. It's like 3 times faster and the jumping makes it look like it's playing like Quake more than the slower more deliberate GE death match play I was accustomed too.

The other thing is, and maybe they have addressed this, but half the "classic" GE mp maps really were quite hopeless map designs when all is said and done. Ones like facility were far too camp friendly. They worked (and worked well) because you could screen cheat but honestly i can't see those maps working in an online game at all. Maybe they modified them I don't know.

I downloaded the old beta a while ago and swiftly deleted it just because there weren't enough people playing it. It's interesting and does match GE quite well, but it's only fun for an hour or so.

Dont mean to question ur hardcore CSS playing but wouldnt the "Orange Box" engine be the source engine?
