Andrew Lyle Global Moderator Posted February 16, 2009 Global Moderator Share Posted February 16, 2009 I always check up on this site, stored in my bookmarks to see how the site is going. I noticed Beta 3 was recently released on the site, and actually looks incredible with a lot more stages to play. The free HL2 modification looks great, check out this video: goldeneyesource.net
Yusuf M. Veteran Posted February 16, 2009 Veteran Share Posted February 16, 2009 It's decent, but not that great. At first glance I didn't think it used the Orange Box engine. Apparently, it does. I guess it's just one of those games that plays better than it looks.
pjak
impressive stuff - looks a lot like NightFire for pc (ea's "mod" for hl1 engine by gearbox) - but doesn't really feel like it has anything to do with 007 - lol

I would rather a firm gameplay like COD4, and the loose gameplay that Goldeneye:Source provides. It looks fantastic, and I would want to try it out on a friends PC before getting it. I thought a lot of the counter strike players here might like to see this

I'll definitely give it a try, for old time's sake.
PyX
Woah, it sure as hell changed compared to what I've seen a few years ago. It became godly :p I wish I had Half Life 2 installed and some time to waste... I'd be sure to try it.

Nagisan
I was a major fan of the original (N64 version) but I'm not all that interested in this mod.....then again my gaming tastes have changed majorly since then....I use to be a fan of FPS (never liked CS though.....too much wait time in between rounds), with fast paced games (like UT and Natural Selection, where you respawn shortly after you die, and are back in the action within seconds of your respawn).......but there aren't many good fast paced FPS out right now (IMO) so I play more RPGs now instead of FPSs. That being said, looks like it would be a good novelty game for those who still enjoy Goldeneye style games, but other than that I dont think it will be a major hit. Andrew Lyle Global Moderator Posted February 16, 2009 Author Global Moderator Share Posted February 16, 2009 You guys realize this is a beta right? And was made for free on peoples free time. A very good effort in my eyes
Argi
For those of us who playing Goldeneye back when we were young, this is probably a bit of fun. I remember a few releases back it was really buggy and looks like they've worked on it a lot since then.

witalit
Personally I think they have done well to port it over. Problem is though its a dying community. One of those which grew big when it came out as in the initial hype. But over time it grew weak and is kinda dead now IMO.
Smigit
Yeah I've never liked the look of this mod to be honest. I haven't played that but I can't honestly see how that even resembles GE's deathmatch anyway. It's like 3 times faster and the jumping makes it look like it's playing like Quake more than the slower more deliberate GE death match play I was accustomed too. The other thing is, and maybe they have addressed this, but half the "classic" GE mp maps really were quite hopeless map designs when all is said and done. Ones like facility were far too camp friendly. They worked (and worked well) because you could screen cheat but honestly i can't see those maps working in an online game at all. Maybe they modified them I don't know.
StealMySoda
I downloaded the old beta a while ago and swiftly deleted it just because there weren't enough people playing it. It's interesting and does match GE quite well, but it's only fun for an hour or so.

Smigit
The Orange Box engine refers to updates made to the source engine.
Symbiotic Hat
The MP is nice but it looses the feel of the original. I really wish they would remake the single player.

Unkoil
Its a fun game but I preferred the goldeneye mod that was available for hl1. I think with each release the gameplay gets worse.
dead.cell
Definitely too fast for my liking. Last time I tried it, it was incredibly buggy. Maybe it plays better now, but I'll only try it if the speed can be toned down...
