COD4: Modern Warfare

Recommended Posts

Hey,

So I'm a complete COD n00b. Infact I've hardly played any FPS in years. The only FPS game I was remotely good at was HL2: Deathmatch on the PC, which I have since completely outplayed.

Nowadays, whenever I'm on the 360, I'm playing Guitar Hero..

But need to get a new game now.

I gather that COD4:MW is better than COD5 from what I've heard.

A few questions.. is the COD4 multiplayer still highly playable/fun without me having to get a heatset? The wired one that came with the 360 broke, and I never used it much anyway.

Also, I gather the Single Player, whilst epic is somewhat short. Obviously when I venture online for the first time I will be obliterated by all the COD addicts lol. Question is, will I ever last long enough to improve my skills?

I've got about ?40 to spend on a new game, and wanted something different to a music simulation title for a change.

I've never played any COD games or any Halo games (amazing, I know!).

I seem tempted by COD4 and Halo Wars.

Any opinions on what I should get are needed!

I would definitely suggest COD4. Great game and easy to pick up and learn. The first few games on multiplayer might be rough but you will improve quickly. You don't need a headset either. I hardly ever hear more than 2-3 people talk out of a room for 12 so that's not a big deal.

Cheers

Is COD4 the best FPS for the 360? How does it compare to Halo 3?

If I was gonna buy one single FPS game for the Xbox 360 now, would COD4 be the choice? :p

Thanks guys. Looks like I can't go wrong getting COD4 then. I'll either get COD4 + new headset, or COD4 GOTY Edition and no headset.

I guess the latter option is best :p

That's a tough choice. The headset would be nice only if you play with others you know however. Most of the times i don't really interact with the people on my team. The GOTY maps are alright but most people dislike them and skip them.

That's really an opinion question, personally, I'd say Call of Duty 4 is hands down the best FPS on the 360 to date.

No question there, hands down I'd agree. Some people like different things better like Halo or Gears for example, but COD 4 won me over with the simplicity of how easy it is to get into a game, match length, balanced combat, little or no bugs, etc.

I agree there too. If you are just playing with random people I wouldn't worry so much about it. If you actually had people you knew on the game, it is quite fun chatting it up.

Out of the DLC maps, you will most likely end up playing three at the most. I play mostly Domination and Headquarters so Killzone (one of the DLC maps) never comes up. The other three maps I have been playing more and more lately for some reason which I won't complain about. :p

You can't put Halo 3 vs Call of Duty 4, IMO. Both games take a lot of skill and both games are great. If you are looking for a game to have a lot of fun, Halo 3. Call of Duty 4 for some pretty intense gaming.

Why not? They are both fast paced FPS other than having vehicles, they have a lot of similarities. You don't have to be an intense gamer to have fun on COD4, as the numbers show, plenty of casual people play it.

Your missing the point. Yes both are FPS, I'm not dumb. I was referring to fun. Call of Duty 4 is usually who ever gets first shot off first wins the battle. If he is a casual gamer and wants to try Call of Duty 4 go ahead...obviously I have nothing wrong with the game seeing as it is my avatar on the forums.

I think for a "fun" overall game it would be Halo 3 with the variants that you can have.

Same as in H3. If you see the other person first and start shooting at them before they shoot at you, you will probably will. Just like in COD4, if you start shooting first, you will probably win. Not sure of what you are trying to say.

Both games have quite a bit of variance, look at the number of modes in both and weapon combinations, etc.

I agree with mystic. How is halo any different than ccod4 of who gets the first shot off. I would also say that halo is a game that whoever gets the power weapons wins the battle. That's what I like about cod4 is that there are no power weapons and everyone is on a similar playing level.

Ok thank you guys!

As I'd just be playing random people online, I opted for the GOTY edition. Purchased it from GAME.co.uk for ?29.99 free shipping (good deal!) and should be here in the next couple of days.

Anyone who wants to share any tips with me on how not do die in one second, feel free to add me. GT in sig:pp

First, don't use the same gun on every stage. I swap between my RPD and AK47 depending on the stage. Trust me there is a huge difference between close quarters stages and wide open ones.

Second, I would highly suggest your second perk always be the increased damage one. Nothing in that category really beats it out and as you play more, you will learn its value quickly.

Finally, have fun! This game is intense will all the stuff going on, but take some time to appreciate the graphics, effects, etc because Infinity Ward put a great amount of detail into this well rounded game.

I understand that but I was going for the complete "fun" factor. I was referring the casual gamer stand point of being more fun for having different type of variants that you love. Rocket Race, Zombies, Juggernaut, and Grifball all those are really fun and add a great fun feature to the game.

Everyone has their own opinion and for me if I wanted to have fun it would be Halo.

The fact that there is that kind of variation goes along with what gamerboy said though, there is power weapons in Halo, not in COD4.

That is fine because everybody has there own opinion, so no worries here. :p

for a fun combo you can go with

Shotty

Deagle

rockets

Uav jammer or slight of hand

dead silance

LaughingMan brought up two more points I forgot to suggest above. Never ever use a shotgun! If you are even considering it, about the only stage you can use it on is Vacant. You considerably limit your ability to shoot using one.

The other point is dead silence is very effective in modes like S&D but not much else.

LOL. shotgun and dead silence.... I have never and will never use that kind of combination. Having UAV jammer on any class that isn't silenced doesn't make much sense to me either. Every time you shot you give away your position anyway.

Woot.

Disc just arrived. Installed it to my 360 and downloaded the variety pack. Should be playing it first later tonight on Single Player. Gonna try to remember the controls if I can.. xD
