Xbox 360 PC Monitor - Problems with sound

Recommended Posts

Hey,

I just decided to hook up my Xbox 360 to my PC monitor, so I have a proper platform for my steering wheel to play some Race Pro. Problem is, I hook everything up as usual, the Left / Right Audio jacks into the little converter and into the Line-in ( Blue ) port. I activate the Line-in option in the Vista sound options and I also see the green audio bar move as I move around the menus etc. however I hear no sound. Volume for the Line-in settings is at 100% and I checked / double checked everything, still no luck - Any suggestions?

Using On-board on my P6 WS Pro. with Vista's own drivers.

Are you sure that your soundcard can be used in this way? Surely you'd need some software running on the PC to take the inputted sound and pipe it back out to the speakers. Maybe Media Player can do this... Idk. What you're trying to do is use the card like a pass-through, with no additional "help" from the PC?

Yes, I'm pretty sure. I tried this before on previous ASUS motherboards with the onboard sound - That worked perfectly (Y) It's basically just outputting everything from the Line-in to the Line-out, which is the point of that blue port.

Sorry not meaning to derail or go off topic but just wondering what monitor you have and how you managed to link it up to your monitor? Did it have a port there as standard, did you use some magical wizardry or just use some sort of converter?

Again sorry I cant be off much help to you

I have an older 24" Dell, it has a VGA, Component and DVI input - So I bought the Microsoft VGA Cable, hooked it up to the VGA port on the monitor and just flipped it over to the "VGA Channel". When done gaming, I flip it back to DVI.

Easy :)

Never used your sound card, but used to do it all the time for mine.

With Realtek's it was all in the config application. However with the card in my XPS1330 I could do it with the default Vista stuff.

Control Panel -> Sound -> Double click Speakers -> Levels tab

You should see line in/mic sliders in there, which you can move around, however there's a registry hack to you have to do for some soundcards to make those specific sliders appear, which I don't know off the top of my head.

yeah, that's the exact same solution I found through Microsoft's help section - I just don't see those sliders. So if anyone know these 'hacks' It'd be much appreciated (Y)

Aha (Y) you see my Dell monitor is funking useless and seems there is no way in hell to actually connect it to my 360 :(

Anyway good luck with that dude...
