StealMySoda
I hate it, i was really looking forward to playing it but the combat just isnt fun and the assistance off mode is ridiculously bad, why would i want to see my plane from a really odd angle a few hundred meters away. The controls suck as well its been developed for the consoles then the controls transplanted onto the keyboard.Power sliding planes, cmon........ Have you tried it with a 360 controller? The assistance mode off is just at a dumb angle.

I tried flying with assistance off but the same as you guys the camera angle was plain weird. I didn't like assistance on because I hate the cockpit view. After I unlocked the other planes I discovered that you can change the camera angle when assistance is on. What this means is you can easily fly with it on and then when you get a missile lock or can't shake someone you switch to having it off and it suddenly made a lot more sense why it had such a angle. I don't mind it now. I was expecting something more but I guess it is only a demo.
Pupik
How many planes there are in the demo? After a few replays of the second mission I unlocked three, but got bored after that.
boogerjones
Just looking at the promo videos and lame marketing I get the feeling this a pretty game that is going to flunk.

+chorpeac MVC Posted March 3, 2009 MVC Share Posted March 3, 2009 I played this yesterday and I have to say I hated it. I played it on xBox 360 and thought...this is tough with a controller, but maybe it will be better with the joystick. Nope, I thought the controls felt sticky, like you had to move it a lot to move just a little. Trying to line up with the gun was about rediculous, because you would end up jumping the crosshairs all over the screen. BF2 is much better flight simulation in the jets and helos than this game was. The graphics in the plane and from 10k feet up look good, but when you get to the ground it looks like a bad arcade game. I was playing at 1920x1080 at high everything, no stuttering, nothing, just plain bad graphics. I am so glad they came out with a demo, because I saved myself 50-60 dollars... Guest
Demo doesn't work for me. I created profile, pressed apply and the game just hangs. :(
+longgonebn Subscriber² Posted March 3, 2009 Subscriber² Share Posted March 3, 2009 Demo doesn't work for me. -KJ
Either assistance off is a total gimmick, or they didn't use it appropriately in the demo? I don't see the point in it. Maybe it'll be more handy later in the game, because the static camera angle isn't focusing in on anything other than the aircraft; would be more helpful if they panned it towards the target or the missile trailing behind you. macrosslover
yeah, I tried it with assistance off too and I was like WTF, that camera angle is horrible.
-KJ
It's too static as it is now. I don't understand why anyone would use that feature unless he likes the challenge of flying a plane in the eyes of a wingman in diamond formation? Anyway, I enjoyed the Ace Combat 6 gameplay more when compared to the demo offerings. It has better physics, controls, and graphics, at least on the 360. I know the game is supposed to be more arcadish than sim as is AC, but I guess I like arcade games with a touch of realism like Flatout. Something about taking the time to master things. I haven't played HAWX for the PC yet. I heard you can edit and swap some files to unlock other planes in the demo :)
Yusuf M. Veteran Posted March 4, 2009 Veteran Share Posted March 4, 2009 I briefly played the demo to run the benchmark and get a taste of the gameplay. My first impressions of the game were somewhat distasteful. The keyboard and mouse controls felt acquired. The y-axis is inverted by default and it made flying more of a chore than a task. I've yet to try the demo with my joystick. Who knows, it might be one of those games that are simply better with a joystick or game pad than a keyboard and mouse. Performance wise, the demo ran amazingly well. I averaged 58 FPS which is perfect. The visuals are decent but it didn't scream DX10 to me. I can't change the renderer from DX10 to DX9 to discern any differences in visual quality. I hope some video card review site posts a hover-comparison. By the way, turning assistance off puts you into a weird camera angle. I guess it's meant to help you evade missiles more easily.

Unimatrix Xero
DX10 was removed from the steam version for some reason, if yo uwant DX10 you have to redownload the demo from a gaming site
trag3dy
Not sure what to think of this. I played the demo and killing enemy fighter jets was easy enough. But killing ground targets was a pita. Pretty much convinced me that I don't want to pay $50 dollars for this game. I'll get it in 3 or 4 months when it's $20 maybe.
