Early signs of a RROD?

Recommended Posts

So yesterday my 360 froze 3 times meaning I had to turn it off at the power button as the image just froze and no buttons on the controller did anything.

I was playing it a lot, like 5 hour stints, but is this a warning sign of a RROD?

My 360 is only a couple of months old :(

Both mine has frozen a couple of times and they are still working today. I solved most of my freezing problem my moving around the powerbrick, I put it in an position to allow maximum air around it. Though it is a 360, you just never know :p

I take it that you mean you have raised it off the floor with some sort of stand or something? That's cool.

I nicked a couple of 'feet', sort of [ shaped pieces of plastic from college that they stood the PCs on, when I started using them on my 360 I got RROD :s My name is Earl?

freezing isn't necessarily a sign. they're more like the BSOD in a PC. could be something totally unrelated to heating. i wouldn't worry about it too much. clearer indicators to watch for are visual artifacts/corruption, sound only upon turning on and various error codes on first boot that clear with rebooting. none of these are 100% sure indication of an upcoming failure, though. either way, i think you machine will be fine.

My 360 has been freezing this weekend too, not sure what is causing it. I thought XBL was the problem at first as I had people asking me on MSN if I could connect etc.

It just randomly freezes during games now, even after moving it to my desk for better ventilation. The whole time I've not had artifacts or red lights though :/

If your screen becomes distorted when it freezes up expect a red light error. Mine did it about a week before I got 2 red lights. Happened more frequently after that and then it finally broke completely.

@Brad, Ok thought so.

So after I replied earlier I decided to install GTA4 to the HDD and I never experienced any freezes. Decided to try my luck and play from the disk again. Still no freezes. Played Sega Mega Drive collection for a bit, again no more freezes.

Really wish it would die if thats what this is leading to, then I can at least start looking for deals :p

DM i don't think she's on the way out. machines are weird, they go through spells just like people. besides, even of she does croak, 360's are only getting more affordable.

Getting freezes too, played GTA4, froze up on me when I was listening to music on the 360 from my Zen V, and playing GTA 4. Installed it to the hard drive seemed to solve the issue.. Doesn't freeze any other time but in game randomly. I'm covered for a while though.. once the warranty is up on the 360, I bought a two year extended warranty that goes up when the Microsoft one does..

If this is the norm for Microsoft's consoles, I'll never buy one again, which is a shame because I moved away from Nintendo due to them taking a giant steamer on hardcore gamers.

Anyway I'd like to know more from you guys, it seems I'm not the only one having problems with intermittent in-game freezing.

Not necessarily, the NXE update freezes like crazy it ruined xbox and maded me hate it, not guaranteeing a no problems but not neccesarily a warning sign.

So random, it happened three times in one day! :p

I have a feeling it'll happen again, but the only bonus is I won't be playing my 360 for a while due to KZ2

My 360 can have a break for now!

Yeah I was online the first few times, I had the same thoughts as yourself. I even had friends on MSN asking me if XBL was acting up. I disconnected from XBL to check and it still happened though.

Played some Street Fighter and F.E.A.R 2 yesterday, still no problems!

guess it's just wait and see, if you did experience them while offline. maybe it's all these sig changes messing with your karma or something. i mean i'm sure each one is really offended when you dump it in a matter of days.

I've moved my 360 back into its old position in my media centre. I'll just have to wait and see if thats the problem and then think about rearranging my room. Not sure why its only now becoming a problem though..

My sigs = full of win, leave them alone :p

how old is this console anyway? i doubt there's anything in your room that's causing this. are you on a wireless connection and/or router? that could have something to do with it, even when you're offline.

Yeah, this is what happened to me when mine RROD'd. Games would freeze and the display would just show graphics "garbage". Some of it looked cool in an artsy sort of way. ;)

I get random freezing quite frequently when it's reading discs. Copying them to the hard drive has always solved that problem for me though. I've wondered if it has anything to do with my console sitting vertically...
