Suggestion: Favourite Forum Categories

Recommended Posts

I would love to see a feature that would allow you to quickly gain access to a customized list of your favourite forum categories. This list could be placed in "My Assistant" or even beside that link and would provide an area to store shortcuts to forum categories such as "Web Frontend", "Mac Hardware", etc. This would be help minimize the number of clicks to jump from discussion areas.

If this feature already exists, please let me know as I would LOVE to use it.

I've seen a vBulletin forum that lets you choose which forums are displayed on the index, so you can hide all the ones that are irrelevent to what you're interested in. Something like that would be cool, but I couldn't imagine how much modification something like that would need...

I just view the forums using the 'new' and 'active' buttons at the top. That way every time I log in I see all new threads and posts and don't miss anything.

Edit: You can hide the forums you don't want by clicking the '-' button on the top right of each forum.

Good suggestion, but it would still be nice to have a quick list for your favourites...just one less button to click. The problem with the '-' minimize button is it closes the whole section. You may not be interested in all the categories, but still some.

Got news for you two. That can be done here. See the (-) sign on the right hand side. Just click it and it wil not display that section.

As I mentioned above, that doesn't solve the requested feature. The problem with that solution is that you hide the complete section, if you want to view only say 2 of the 10 discussion areas in the section it renders the (-) button useless as you still have to have that whole section open. Not to mention the fact that you still must go back to the "Forum" page to navigate to another discussion area. The request I'm making is to minimize this travel by allowing a quick list so you can navigate to another area from any page, such as this topic for example.

The suggestion was valid, because you said certain categories. If you want it more granular than that, I suggest bookmarking the forums you want.
